Owner description: This 19th century Fort includes a museum highlighting coastal defence. Built by the Victorians to protect Portland Harbour, Nothe Fort is one of the best preserved forts of its kind. The advances in technology that affected the fort are explained through many displays, exhibits and audio visual facilities located on the ramparts, gun decks and maze of underground passageways. Enjoy the stunning and far reaching views of the Jurassic Coast from the picnic areas on the Ramparts. These will provide one of the best vantage points on the south coast.

An excellent place to visit for all the family - at least half a day or longer (depends on how much you want to read!)so good value for money. We really enjoyed our day here. An old fort steeped in history. Overlooking the Harbour at Weymouth. Lots of things to look at - soldiers quarters, evacuation, barracks, WW 2 shops, menus, bar. Also lots of displays, photos, models, real life artifacts about the role the Fort had in the defence of England. Recently opened Cold War bunker. Find the mice competition for kids. And a resident whistling ghost! On 3 levels, excellent wheelchair or pushchair access to all levels. Cafe selling very good quality food at very reasonable prices and big portions. Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Special events at certain times - usually included in admission price. Well worth a visit - something for everyone, would definately recommend!

Hidden gem in Weymouth. Children loved the freedom to roam and search out the little mice. Delighted with certificate at the end. Very helpful, informative and pleasant staff. Lots to see and do.

Had a wonderful evening, starting with a very fine three course meal, very well organised and good value for money! Both the guides were very informative with history, done with humour and not boring! Would recommend.

This was a second visit for us, having been to Nothe many years ago with two very small children; we were keen to return to see what changes have been made. Nothe is fairly easy to find and there is plenty of parking nearby, although some people might find the narrow streets on the way there a little disconcerting to drive along.
This place is a great find and not too expensive for a family of four to visit. It is well run by pleasant and helpful volunteers, who were more than happy to chat with my kids at the end of the day. Most of the site is easy to access and the kids had great fun wandering along the tunnels looking for the famous fort mice. If you have a pair of binoculars do take them along with you as the views from both the fort and the Nothe gardens around it are great, as you can easily see across to Portland and down into Weymouth harbour.
I guess we spent a good few hours in the fort as there is plenty to see and it is obvious that money is still being spent to maintain and upgrade the exhibits. Some of the exhibits may be a little tired and clichéd but it is obvious that a lot of people care for the site and are putting a lot of effort into keeping this place running.
If you love history, this place is a must.

Went on my holiday this past week and was amazed. I don't remember my last visit there about 12 years ago (as I was only about 12) but mum said she couldn't remember it being up to much. How wrong!!

Very reasonably priced to get in and plenty to see. I cannot cope with lots of reading of text. I prefer to look at the lifelike displays. This has just the right mix and something different around every corner.

I went with my brother on a VERY wet day but even walked around the top of the Fort watching the crashing waves below with gale force winds and driving rain. Did not spoil the experience at all.

Take your camera and plenty of money for the donation pot at the end as they honestly deserve it. Would love to go again if they continue to improve it.
