Owner description: This 19th century fort includes a museum highlighting Weymouh's role in Britain's naval history. Built by the Victorians to protect Portland Harbour, Nothe Fort is one of the best preserved forts of its kind. The advances in technology that affected the fort are explained through many displays, exhibits and audio visual facilities located on the ramparts, gun decks and maze of underground passageways. Enjoy the stunning and far reaching views of the Jurassic Coast from the picnic areas on the Ramparts. These will provide one of the best vantage points on the south coast.

“Excellent lace to visit”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Having gone to school and worked in Weymouth for many years it took going back on holiday with my kids to actually visit the fort.Amazed to find they had a nuclear bunker there when I was l at school. Very good for history fans covering Victorian, WW2 and Cold War. Also great for views. Would rather spend money there than a similar price to go up the viewing tower. Cafe designed to look like wartime British Restaurant such as may be seen on Dads Army. Actual food served is just basic such as soup, bacon sandwich or cake and drinks. The fort doesn't look much from the outside, it was never designed to look nice! Inside its on 3 levels with a lift and we spent nearly 4 hours there. Best place to park is at the bottom of Rodwell Avenue at the back of Hope Square. Private car park is £2 for 4 Hours. Municiple car parks are a rip off.Turn right out of the car park and walk under the bridge to the coast path and left through gardens toward fort. 10 min stroll.

it is quite something to see, the only thing was that i thought £6 admission was very expensive so we did not go inside but wondered around outside, but worth a viewing

“Excellent but spoilt by the smell from the kitchen”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

The Fort, and Gardens are very well presented, and are in an excellent location with stunning views. Unfortunately the smell from the cafe area was awful, and it could do with better ventilation.
It would have been nice to have a coffee or tea but we left that for another place.
The exhibitions are excellent, and the restoration has been well done.

“A worthwhile trip with great views”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

A trip down memory lane with some interesting exhibits and helpful staff. Some of the areas are looking a little dated, but this is made up for by the views from up top with a fantastic overview of Weymouth, Portland and beyond.

There were cheaper (i.e. free) alternatives for watching the London 2012 olympic sailing, but the atmosphere during that time seemed great.
