Description: Il Porto is the result of a lifelong passion for food and hospitality. Created by brothers De Paola, their intention was to create a restaurant which they would frequent themselves - a place considered in both its food and design, and one that has a personality and identity. An Italian bar & Kitchen, rustic decor, sympathetic to the historic brewery in which it is housed. Authentic family recipes that utilise local produce, the best that Dorset offers, cooked "Italian Style"

We decided to eat here , despite having eaten Italian , the night before, well I say Italian , ( prezzo) on the bridge, what a difference a day makes ,it was 7-30 on a Friday, it was packed , but they found us a table , service was excellent , the food was delicious , (wife had sea bass said it was best she had eaten) and they even had a piano playing back round !! , if there is a criticism , it's that it can be very loud , due to the building as it's spacious and the piano was a little over powering at times , so for the romantics it maybe to loud ? Going as a group it would be a great choice, a bit pricey than prezzo , but this is a real Italian , and u can't buy that !!!

Thank mark p

So we had totally forgot that Italy was playing England, it was Saturday night during the busy summer season and the sun was out - but this dawned on us when we saw how busy the restaurant was, but they still found us a table. The owner was very apologetic that it wasn't the nice fancy tables, but an outdoor picnic table brought inside with a table cloth on. This really didn't bother us and it anything added to the rustic feel.

The menu is good and has lots on offer, and something for everyone. There is also a specials board every day telling you what fish is on. We made our choice. Calprese salad & Garlic mushrooms to start. Salad was tangy from the toms and creamy from the cheese. The garlic mushrooms were earthy and good with lots of delicious garlic...

Main course we had Calzone (for the husband) and I had the special which was linguine Scallops. The Calzone was packed full of minced beef and cheese and sausage and tasted very rich. Hubby (who is a bit of an expert on these things) said it was light and not to heavy like most of them. The linguine arrived and looked amazing. 3 scallops served in the shell with a buttery gratin topping. A pile of silky linguine topped with 2 huge meaty juicy king prawns. The meal was amazing. The only downside was I am allergic to anchovies (but i love the taste) and the linguine had them melted throughout, which wasn't on the menu, so I had a bit of a problem eating all of mine as I forgot my eppi pen!

The meal itself was tasty and fresh. The staff were friendly and very good service. Its a grew restaurant and a credit to the area. We really enjoyed our meal.

2 starters, 2 main (plus one was an expensive special), side order of salad plus drinks came to £55 - excellent value for money we thought.

My husband and I had an amazing meal here last night!
We had not read any reviews or asked for recommendations, we just liked the look of the place.
The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was superb. We both had the seafood linguine, a huge platter with lovely scallops and huge king prawns.
The whole dish was delicious, one of the best meals we have ever had. Will look forward to going back when the salsa dancing is on.

This was the second time I'd been here. And on both occasions it was on our last night of the holiday as we wanted something special. The service and staff was very good, attentive and make everything personal. Just found it a bit pricey for what it was as our mains averaged £20. Would have been happier paying £15.

My fish soup was disappointing. As it seemed as though it was leftovers in a watery tomato sauce. I couldn't really taste the fish. The main I basically had a mixed seafood linguini which was pleasant enough, although one of the king prawns was still raw inside. The meal came to £140 for 4 people having 2 courses, a bottle of wine and 2 beers.

Pleasant enough evening with a good atmosphere for which we'll return.

Had lovely lunchtime meal with the family here last week during a very wet day. The staff were very friendly if a little bit slow with service. Luckily we were not in a hurry. The food was excellent and reasonable. Nice place to visit if you want a leisurely meal.
