Description: We, at our National British Pie Award winning Handmade Pie & Ale House are setting out to create the most premium of pies and to serve the most traditional, tastiest constantly changing ales, of which we always have some local and some from various parts of the country. We now have up to six to choose from and you are always welcome to have a FREE try before you buy!! We are proud to have our beautifully renovated old restaurant / bar where you can sit, enjoy and take in the charming surroundings whilst being looked after by our lovely caring staff and you can eat drink and be merry. Our pies are lovingly made by us, by hand, in our open-plan pie kitchen (where you can also see them being made!) With our homemade pastry and homemade fillings, no two pies are ever the same. We are constantly making our pies fresh from a selection of over 38 different flavours - we even make our own low calorie 'smart pies' and of course several vegetarian options. Also, if for some reason you don't fancy one of our multi award winning pies, we even have a NON PIE menu, which, believe it or not is called the 'We Don't Just Do Pies' menu! This has an ever changing variety of good old home cooking favourites and specialty boards, such as a meat & cheese sharer, our own crispy chicken wings, our own homemade gooey Brie Wedges in Panko breadcrumbs and 1/2 a rotisserie chicken on a board! Plus good old proper relaxing Sunday lunches, with roast leg of lamb, aged Scottish beef, stuffed rolled crispy belly pork etc. Not hungry? Alternatively, if you prefer just come and enjoy a drink in our beautiful bar and just have a good old piece of free hospitality on the side.......

Been there more than a few times, and love the food! Delicious pies; a large varitey, and also a "we dont just do pies" menu allowing you a change.
Each pie is hand made, and mouth wateringly taste! Espeically the cheesey chips and cheesey mash sides!
Well designed restaurant & always clean. Friendly staff - but definitely book a table, can get busy, but they'll always make space for you!

Beyond excellent for me!

ok so firstly a quick negative! - no opening times on the website anywhere so tried to phone.....landline not in use and mobile didnt asnwer.... so eneded up having to wlak down on the off chance it was open. GOOD STUFF! - it was open (good start!) and it was one of the best presented places ive walked into for a long time. really smart.

menu was good simple and the staff welcoming.

food was excellent, i had a CBH pie with mash and mushy peas. all of which was superb stuffed with filling good not lumpy mash and the peas were....well peas so hard to make a balls up on.

will definatly go back as i thought it was very good value and the food top draw.

PUT OPENING TIMES ON WEB SITE AND ANSWER THE PHONE...that is all. :)

“Not just pies and ale”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

We visited the Pie and Ale house before visiting Weymouth Pavillion. Arriving just before 6pm I knew that my husband would be well catered for as he loves pies and real ale. He chose a pint of Hobgoblin and ordered the Steak and Guiness pie with chips. I chose the fish pie which has a mixture of prawns, white and smoked fish with cheesy topped potato mash which is gluten free. Otherwise I could have had ham, egg and chips. The chips are beautifully cooked and come in individual wire chip fryer baskets and there were definitely more than six as stated in the previous review. The pie looked small but it was stuffed full of meat and certainly filled up my husband. The gravy is indeed an extra but there again not everyone wants their pie swimming in gravy. Another couple chose the pie and mash option and shared a jug of gravy, and they were served a dish of mashed potato with the pie placed on top. The pie choices change each week and the pies are made daily so once they have gone they are gone. Somewhere I will definately go back to and take friends.

“Interesting pies but ambience ruined by intrusive TV screens.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

My wife and I visited after seeing a rave review in the local paper. The server was welcoming, helpful, pleasantly chatty and efficient. A meal is made up of individually priced items so a pie, mashed potato or chips and mushy peas cost more than expected. Even the essential gravy was extra. There is a wide range of interesting pies on offer. Our pies disappointed on arrival seeming small. However, they were packed with meat. The chips arrived in a tiny individual metal frying basket - which was novel - but they worked out at about 10 pence each! I had a Tiramisu dessert which was good. There were four good real ales averaging £3.30 which was an acceptable price. Obviously a lot of money has been put into the decor to raise this venue above the pub that it replaced. However, it was VERY annoying to have three large TV screens silently showing the BBC News channel which recycled the news every 10 minutes or so. Surely nobody wants a romantic evening with the world’s morbid news being thrust at you?

Hello there Dorset_Food_Fan and thank you for paying us a visit recently, following the fab review we had by the 'mystery diners' of the Dorset Echo. We are very pleased to hear that you found our service to be welcoming, our pies to be packed with meat and all this was accompanied by four good real ales! - "Sounds like my kinda place" - In respect of the three televisions we have downstairs, the downstairs of our Pie & Ale House is predominantly a 'pub/bar' environment and we have never set the atmosphere of the ground floor to be particularly romantic. Just so you know for the future, we do have an upstairs restaurant (without televisions showing the BBC news channel) which is very different and far more romantic than downstairs. However, with the busy workings of an open kitchen it can sometimes be less romantic than we would like! Going back to the televisions downstairs in the bar area, they are there by customer demand and provide not only the 'world's morbid news being thrust at you' that you mentioned, there's sports news, current affairs, the weather and topical issues such as, health, education and so on........ We are sorry that you found the televisions intrusive but we obviously have to cater for a wide range of tastes from all aspects of life and there are many of our guests that visit us so they can have a good old hearty meal, a few jars of good old real ale and a 'catch up' on the latest news and current affairs etc. On your next visit please feel free to enjoy our upstairs restaurant, but do book beforehand because we are regularly having to turn people away. We look forward to seeing you soon! The Pie & Ale team

“Oh dear !!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

Looked on trip advisor whilst away in weymouth, read the raving reviews for this place, Ooo!! we thought sounds really good. expecting homemade pie and chips and a nice pub.... Oh dear !! the pie I am sure was one of those round ones from tesco value range, and there was no meat in it ?? the chips although did look homemade, came in a tiny basket like a metal kids toy and there were about 5 chips, and the peas were hard. Also the service was bad, being made to wait for sauce to the point that you had finished your meal if thats what you can call it, and to top the terrible food and service etc, EVERYTHING is charged extra, £1 for the peas, £4.50 for the pie, and £ 2.50 for the chips, another £1 for the gravy etc etc etc, turns out an expensive dinner for a load of rubbish food and the beer is pretty poor aswell, This is one of the worst places we have been ever !!
