“We still love it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2011

We have now had five or six holidays at the Hotel Rex, which speaks for itself. From arrival to departure we are made to feel very welcome by the staff throughout the hotel, with nothing too much trouble. The quality of the food is excellent, our bedroom and bathroom well-cleaned and with no necessity to bring toiletries. We are looking forward to next year .....

After a long day out my husband and I arrived at Weymouth, in search of a place to stay the night , we came across Hotel Rex, On entering we were greeted by a very warm and welcoming face on the reception desk, this lady was very helpful, we even got to see and choose the room before we booked, this was very helpful to me as i have a disability and have trouble with my mobility. The room was very clean, warm and cosy also complimentary products were plentiful. We had our evening meal at the hotel as it was our 21st wedding anniversary, our meal was tasty, plentiful and value for money.
My husband and i will return to the Hotel Rex again in the near future.

The rooms were comfortable with all we needed. Kept immaculate and any request we made ( e,.g. more milk) was seen too immediately. Cases taken to our rooms.Whole hotel was welcoming - every staff member was happy , cheerful and always ready to help. Food was good with plenty of choice and at our hour which suited us.Table service was slick yet not pushing. Impression given that only we mattered and we could take as much time as wished.Lounges, bar area well appointed and comfortable.Booking was easy and reception staff mirrored the whole ethos of the hotel. Definitely a hotel to be recommended for a good relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Second floor o.k. but first floor has balcony .

My travelling companion and I stayed at the Hotel Rex for a night prior to taking an early morning ferry to Jersey. We had intended to share a room but decided on arrival to book a second room. The hotel was built as a holiday retreat for the future King William IV. My companions room was obvioulsy in the royal part - relatively spacious and well set out with a graciously expansive staircase (or a lift) to her floor. My room (less expensive) was on the upper floor, accessed by a functional but not decorative staircase (or lift) and was somewhat more cramped. There was a decided slope to the floor and I felt all night as if i was going to roll out of bed. This must have been the servant's quarters. The views from either room were magnificent, over the bay towards distant cliffs.
Unfortunately the service was rather poor. Check-in was OK, but when we went for dinner in the restaurant we were ignored for 10 minutes after being given a menu (the only other diners at the time, who had arrived after us had already been served their starters) and so walked out. We left before breakfast due to our early ferry departure but I had to help the night clerk with the check-out pocedure.
Overall the rooms were adequate, the view wonderful, but the service lefty something to be desired.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view.

Restaurant service was very poor. One morning it took 20 minutes for my breakfast order to be taken and then another 20 for it to arrive, except the toast which never came in spite of reminders .Likewise at dinner the potatoes with my main course never arrived.
It was clear from the service on the first morning that there was a problem which was unresolved 4 days later.
A shame as the staff, rushed off their feet, did their best. Also on previous visits no problems.
Overall this is a value for money 3* hotel which this year let itself down badly with managemnent unable/unwilling to resolve

I stayed with my father for one night @ £70 for B&B. The room was spacious, clean & a plentiful supply of shampoo's & gel's. The two course evening meal @ £12.95 was very palatable.
