We visit with friends and as a couple when out walking along the picturesque Fleet nearby. Beautiful small village setting, in the gents you look outdirectly into the graveyard!
Generally a couple of good real ales on tap. The food is of a high standard, fish a speciality and well recommended. Service is good, and staff courteous.

This pub looks pleasant from the outside, but not so,when you are in there. It was a cold December day,and the whole place was really cold. Not good at all. When we mentioned it to the landlady.she was rude, and couldn`t have cared less.We will not be visiting there again, and will definately not recommend. The landlady was a cold and unwelcoming as the temperature. The other staff were the same.

I'm sorry that you thought the pub was cold. We put the heating on and light the fire as early as possible so that the place is warm when we open. You were quite welcome to sit by the fire. I assure you we certainly do care.

We have been using this pub two or three times a year summer and winter for the last 20 years and always come away with a very positive experience provided you remember that you are in a pub.
The cutlery and sauces are not brought to the tables you have to get them yourself which is always a negative for me when the prices reflect table service. If you live with pub service or rather lack of it the menu is what you would expect in a pub that is trying very hard to bring in the diners, mainly specials on the boards which have never disappointed. The great food quality and fresh selection is what keeps us going back frequently.
Although we are local, we are not local enough to be known and always receive a warm welcome. All the staff have without exception treat us as though they want us there; I always recommend to friends touring the area for this reason.

Thank you for your review and I'm pleased that you have enjoyed your visits. During busy periods all of the tables are laid and at other times about half are. Every table has condiments, vinegar and mustard. If people sit at a table that isn't laid we lay it before serving their food. We then ask whether they would like us to bring any sauces. If people wish to eat in the garden we ask them to take cutlery and sauces with them. Thank you again and we hope you will return.

Whilst staying in the Moonfleet Hotel recently, my husband and I were advised to come to this quiet country pub for a drink. We ended up staying for a 3 course lunch having enjoyed the atmosphere and weather so much. The white bait starter was gorgeous, and my homemade beef burger was brilliant. We both thoroughly enjoyed our day out at the Elm Tree and I would highly recommend it for any one staying or walking in the local area. Great to sit in the pretty beer garden on sunny days, although I wouldn't advise it currently!
