“Disgusting”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2012 via mobile

The very worst fish and chips I have ever experienced. One mouthful in and discovered the fish was slimy and uncooked and the batter was bright yellow and gooey with gritty bits in. The service matched. It also stank of filthy old oil. Disgusting in every way.

“The worst dining experience ever”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2012 via mobile

Terrible service by an extremely rude women, took ages to take my order even though the place was pretty much empty. We had fish and chips, it was DISGUSTING - fish not cooked and was coated in a bizarre looking batter, which was simutainiously raw, grainy and slimy. When we pointed this out, instead of trying to re cook it or offer any assistance the staff were really unhelpful and blamed us! I would not recommend going here at all. Avoid!

Not knowing Weymouth i sat down and ordered fish and chips and tea . i wish i had not the batter was horrible i had a hair in with my chips ,the tea was served in a grubby cup .and to top it all the "chef " was coughing and spluttering whilst i was attempting to consume this "delight "i left it after a few bites and fear for my health during the next few days .i would give £20 not to eat in that place again given the choice .i am 61 and this is the second worse meal i have eaten in all my years

“Very poor.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2011

Very popular cafe with the older generation, so we thought we were on to a winner. The place smelt of old frying oil which was bit off putting, never mind we thought after all all these other people must see something in the place.

Unfortunately we were wrong, their special batter was just one limp oily strip of yellow gloop, the fish was virtually non existant it must have been a (frozen) square of cod no bigger than 4 inches in size and not fish like in many ways - like the cod in a bag portions. The chips were very greasy. The tea cup was tiny almost like a cup for espresso coffee. The only real edible thing was the bread and butter.

Save you time, arteries and wallet IMO and find somewhere else to eat!

“Fish and Chip Perfection”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2011

Being native to these shores I've visited many seaside towns and had many disappointing fish suppers. The way that these things work is that if somewhere is famous for a delicacy, then there will be more copy cats trying to cash in on the reputation. I'm glad to say that Harlequin Cafe isn't one of them.

I ordered a set meal - Medium Cod & Chips, with peas (the choice was mushy or not, I went for mushy) with a hot drink (opted for tea) and two white slices on the side. The price for this was around £8, which is a bit high, but the food was hot & tasty, well proportioned, fresh & the service was quick. I would eat here again. Granted it's no palace, decor wise, but it's clean and a pleasant place to eat.
