“Everything Has to Suit Their Own Convenience &Not the Customers”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2010

The couple are very nice but I have to say but Nigel can be sometimes too much in your face. He seem to be the type of person who loves to hear his voice. Rooms are sufficient and clean. Unfortunately we have a lot of problems with the service.
EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO IN THE B&B, IT FEELS AS IF IT NEEDS TO SUIT THEIR OWN CONVENIENCE.
1. As soon as we arrived, we were asked already to move our car to suit the delivery man. Not really a good first impression as I thought we were the one they should try and please and not the delivery man.
2. Breakfast were only served a short period of time. An hour as I can remember! Only from 8am to 9am! No more no less! it was really early. So if you would like to go on holiday to relax and do what you want.. wake up whenever you want.. this wont be possible in this hotel unless you want to buy your own breakfast. I was shocked with this as this is again of course to suit their own schedule!
3. You have to order breakfast the day before. Well if you are the type of person who wouldnt know what you want to have the next day til you wake up its a bit of an inconvenience.
4. Nigel likes to chat with his guests. There is no problem with this as my spouse and I have travelled around the world and encountered different types of people.. But sometimes we wish he would leave us alone esp when we have our breakfast.
5. My husband was asked to move his car whilst in the middle of having breakfast
6. Everywhere you see signs that you need to do this etc etc... We booked the room with the shared bathroom and everywhere in the toilet you see signs on what you should be doing. Im generally a clean person but I felt like I was staying for free at a friends house.. that I have to look after their house so much so they dont need to clean it!
7. Nigel makes comments when we are eating about what my husband likes to eat..
Its not really appropriate to make a comment that my husband has a liking to a certain type of cereals. I thought it was unnecessary and made my husband feel guilty having two small boxes of cereals! (he didnt order any english breakfast)

I think Nigel will need to be able to differentiate talking to his customers compared to when he chats with his mates. Althrough out our stay it felt like we have to please them instead of the other way around. Unfortunately as much the rooms were clean I wouldnt go back to this B&B.

We ask that anybody that reads this review, should look at all our other reviews on this site.

Breakfast is ordered the night before to prevent food wastage. We are part of the Jurassic Coast Association, an organisation that wants us to be as Green as possible. All guests are informed of this fact and all state that it is a good idea. They are also told that if they change their minds, there are blank menus they can fill in and these are collected in the morning. In terms of breakfast times, most of our guests want breakfast at 8.00am as they wish to get up, have a good breakfast and then off to see the sights. Later breakfasts are available in some hotels.

Most of the guests chat with me as they wish to learn more about the area and its attractions. Just look at all our other reviews for the favourable comments. Our breakfast room tends to be very friendly in the morning with all guests talking to each other about their experiences. If you want to sit in silence then, sorry, Lacey's Guest House is not for you. To this end, we must state that the breakfast room does not shut at 9.00am sharp, it closes when the last guest has finished - never rushed.

All our guests comment on how helpful we are, and how we go out of our way to give that special service. It is our aim to give you our guests a break that they will remember. We have hundreds of very positive comments in our visitors book.

We do not have a mass of notes in the bathroom. We do not and would not ask guests to move their cars whilst they are eating breakfast. If a car needs to be moved, then it at the convenience of all our guests. Normally our guests organise themselves as they talk to each other at breakfast. As most of our guests want to turn up and then leave their cars, using public transport to get around or walk, we very rarely have to move cars.

Found This B & B and the Mrs booked it based on the reviews. The price was reasonable for 2 nights including breakfast. Arrived in the afternoon and met by the friendly owners who explained various aspects of the property/location/procedures.

The bedroom we stayed in was at the very top in the converted loft and was one of the more basic versions without en-suite. It was not the largest room's however it had a comfortable bed, TV/DVD, Sink unit, and tea making facilities with teabags/coffee/chocolate included. The bathroom was shared, but it seemed like we where the only one's using it.

The breakfast was very good. The owners provided a list of what was available for their guests to complete the night before. The only issue is the restriction on time it was to be severed - between 0800 and 0830. In my eyes I am on a break and don't want to be getting up at 0830 (The latest time) on a Sunday when I am trying to relax.

Internet service is available: Just asked the owners for the WEP code.
Car Parking: The driveway is very tight, at the time the hotel was not full of people and I could see a possible issue (If it was) as the driveway could only fit about 4 cars on it, with one being stuck behind another. We didn't have an issue on this occasion.
Location: Nice easy Walk into the Town Centre, No real issues there and the traffic noise is reduced to a minimum as the hotel is not on a main road.

Overall recommendations.
1: Overhaul of the plumbing as the pipes were noisy. We were located next door to the toilet and when it was flushed it took forever to refill the cistern and the pipes were noisy.
2: Black out curtains in the room as light wakes you up at 6am.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
Comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
The owners were a real pleasure to speak to and assists you with information on the area. (A real treat to be welcomed into their premises.)

When I chatted to Nigel and his wife this morning they said 'we know what we are... We're a guest house in a residential area and we aren't trying to make it into anything else'. The fact is is that they have made it into much more. The location is great - I stayed overnight for work reasons- but with the seafront being a 5 minute walk away I found time to escape to the beach. The welcome was warm before I even arrived, as Nigel offerred to pick me up from the station. The house is very clean, Modern, bright, fresh and airy- as was my room. The bed was extremely comfortable, there was a great wall mounted flat screen tv, a sofa, tea making facilities (you can even fill your jug with fresh milk from the fridge up the stairs), and an immaculate shower room with plenty of hot water. The furniture and furnishings were very clean and new. The breakfast menu was extensive and the food was delicious. Real coffee too. These two are truly fantastic and friendly hosts who know the area very well. They would bend over backwards to help and advise, and seem to genuinely love what they do. I hope to have the opportunity to go back soon.

Nigel and Wendy Lacey made us feel very welcome, and went out of their way to direct us to all the local sights. The guest house is in a very quiet area, and is about a 5-10 minute walk from the town center and beach.
The room was very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was great.
10 out of 10 for value for money and service.
