Have just had a two night stay in a spotlessly clean and comfortable room. Roger, mine host, was very welcoming and most helpful with local information. The breakfast far exceeds many top hotels for choice and very tasty too. Many thanks. I will definitely return when visiting my relatives in Weymouth.

This B&B is in a quiet location just off the main street and only a very short walk from the Esplanade and the beach, on the quieter side of town.

Breakfast was served between 7.30 and 9.00 a.m. which was a little early for us, especially on holiday and, particularly because my wife was recovering from a major operation and we’d booked the holiday in order for her to have a good rest.

Papers were available on the sofa at the bottom of the stairs in the morning. Also, in the hall, was a selection of leaflets with local attractions, although you had to get down on the floor to look at them as this is where they were kept. As we had just arrived, my wife asked the much praised Roger if he had a map of Weymouth as we wanted to go for a walk to get our bearings. He gave her one (from 2009) and asked if he could have it back as it was his only map. We did go to the tourist office to get a map of our own but it was closed – well, why would anyone expect it to be open on a Bank Holiday!

At breakfast, jam and marmalade, etc. were available. However, they were in big jars, as you have at home. Small containers would be much more hygienic.

Our room (no. 5) was very small - you’d never get a cat in, never mind swing it. However, it was modern and clean, with plenty of storage space, a TV, ironing board and tea and coffee-making facilities. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern with a shower, plenty of toiletries and nice towels.

On our first day, we asked Roger how to get to West Bay (highly recommended on a nice day!) and he was quite helpful in drawing us a map to guide us to the coast road.

On our second evening, we wanted to watch TV in the lounge, instead of in our room. However, we couldn’t get the TV to work and we felt awkward about disturbing anyone.

On the morning of our departure, we thought it would have been nice had Roger asked us if we had had a nice day at West Bay, especially as we were the only ones at breakfast. He didn’t.

During our two-day stay, my wife collected some up-to-date maps for Roger and carried them around with her. After breakfast on our last day, she went up to get the maps and, at the same time, we brought a few things down from our bedroom. She innocently went to the hatch to give Roger the maps. You might have thought he would have been pleased but, instead of thanking her, when she said “Here are some up-to-date maps for you”, he replied “You haven’t paid me yet” and he seemed to be indicating towards an envelope which he had on the side of the counter. My wife was really shocked by this and said a few times “I really can’t believe that you thought we would be leaving without paying”. Instead of an apology what she got was “Some people think that they have already paid”.

Well,if that was the case, he could have made a joke of it and said, in response to her giving him the maps, “I’m sorry that I only have a bill for you in exchange” - or he could just have left the envelope on our breakfast table. He didn’t give my wife the envelope either – so her immediate thought was, he probably doesn’t want to give it to her but to her husband, which was the case! We were just about to write a message in the visitors’ book but …….

This all left a very nasty taste. We have stayed in many B&Bs but we have never had our integrity or our honesty questioned like this. What Roger said was insulting and unnecessary. And, anyway, he had our credit card and personal details. We think that we’re respectable people but he, obviously, thinks otherwise in which case we’ll not be troubling him with a return visit, comfortable though his premises are.

A couple of other things: checking-out time at the B&B is 10.00 a.m. which is very early when you are on holiday. Also, if she was around, Debbie didn’t put in an appearance during our stay.

We recently stayed for a 2 night stay and was very impressed by everything at the Ashmira. Firstly we were given a morning text from roger to ask about time we were arriving so he could meet us from there on he catered for our every need. Also had great local knowledge and helped us to find places to eat and things to do. The honesty is very well stocked and reasonably priced if we go to Weymouth again would defiantly stay here again.
