My mum and I enjoyed a lovely couple of days at the Appleby Manor Hotel and the highlights were definitely the kind and helpful staff and the delicious food. We were lucky enough to to be given an upgrade into a garden room which had a bright fresh feel, a patio door leading to a furnished terrace with a pretty table and chairs (even with cushions), a large modern en suite, comfortable twin beds and everything you could possibly need to make your stay as stress free as possible. The view from our room and terrace made our stay, you could see for miles and it was lovely to sit with a drink either in the room or on the terrace (depending on the weather) and just take it all in. We had dinner the first night in the restaurant and in the bistro the following evening, the food was tasty and well presented and both dining rooms were pleasantly decorated with many of the original features in keeping with the Manor House itself. The conservatory was a wonderful place to enjoy a pre dinner cocktail and if weather permits I'm sure the patio would be lovely too, it's a very convivial space and we met some lovely people. The staff couldn't have been nicer, they were really lovely treating everyone with respect and good humour. Our only criticism was the long delay both nights in the restaurants, we booked for 7.30 on the first night and didn't sit down until 8.30 and it was similar the following night. This didn't bother us too much but the poor staff were constantly having to apologise to everyone for the delay and some of the people eating were getting very impatient. This said we had a lovely stay exploring the surrounding area and would definitely stay at Appleby Manor House again.

Room tip: The garden room's are beautiful.

We stopped here on our way from the midlands to Edinburgh - a beautiful Manor House with stunning views. We dined at the bistro which was very good value for money and breakfast was wonderful. Above all compliments to all of staff - friendly helpful and welcoming

If you want to be away from it all , to sit back relax and have piece and quiet, this is the place . Tucked away on its own , but has a little village/ town nearby to explore or if the backpack and off you go exploring, you can do that .
Main entrance/ reception area does not give a good impression, it small dark and decorated in that manor, and feels very much that way, when you continue into the first seated area, the furniture and furnishings could do with brightening up .the conservatory is nice and bright with a lovely view and a nice place to sit and have a drink or afternoon cream tea.
The restaurant lived up to its rosettes , the food was wonderful and very well presented.
The newest part of the manor , were they have the spa and more bedrooms has been decorated very nicely, feels very fresh. Our bedroom was very spacious, lovely decor and a fabulously big ,comfortable bed, with a spacious very modern en-suite. Rooms and the hallway was nice and quiet, very clean, with lovely furniture and bedding.
The spa was very nice indeed, worth a visit if you are a spa lover.
Bar had a good selection of local beer and gin,and a good choice of wines.
All staff were very friendly and welcoming and attentive, and all seemed happy in their work.

We had a two night package with dinner one day and booked a spa treatment. We upgraded the room to a king size bed.

Check in was say and we booked our time for dinner. Our room was ready even though we are early. Car park is big enough and right in front of the hotel.

Our spa treatments were great and we were both relaxed afterwards and then had a cocktail in the bar before a wonderful dinner. The staff were very helpful and got us what we needed. There’s good wine matching with the meals.

We had a great stay and on the second ate in the Bistro 1871. Another good meal

Easy checkout.

Staff were excellent all the time and knew where and when we had tables booked

Fantastic stay

Warm welcome and efficient service in this hotel. Excellent massage in the Spa also. The food was good and plentiful (though I have a relatively small appetite) my husband had no complaints about quantities.
We chilled on a wedding anniversary break and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Food was excellent and service friendly and efficient. Staff remembering you from day to day.
Spa excellent and staff helpful and attentive - if required, but also self effacing if needed,
We want to go again, when funds permit

Room tip: We paid for a garden terrace room, and was not disappointed, the room was spacious and had large roomy armchairs to relax in.
