This was our second visit to this Cumbrian Country House Hotel.
The overnight package including Dinner was good value but only included for Two courses!!
Upon checking in at around 17.00 we felt chilly -my Dinner guests commented the Heating system was not coping too well
Overall we enjoyed our stay reinforced by receiving good quality food served at Dinner and Breakfast, the service was excellent.

Despite the Reception / Dining areas being cold, this Hotel is commended
Well Done

After the utter mayhem that constitutes Christmas, myself and my partner had booked to come here (on a very, very generous Living Social deal) to relax for a couple of days. Immediately uncomfortable after spending more than 2 hours without checking our emails, we were instantly put at ease by this place; the staff were bustling and friendly at every turn, the atmosphere was perfect with the twinkling piano keys that seemed to follow you around the hotel, and our room was comfortable and spacious. After arriving, we went straight down to the spa, which has a decent sized pool (take care on the slopes though!), a jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. To start with we thought the sauna was broke, but it was actually our incompetent attempt to turn it on was the problem. That evening we had dinner in the restaurant (as part of the Living Social deal), and were treated to a delightful three course dinner with wine and on-the-house canapes and soup. I noticed that our waiter, who had begun the evening calling me 'Sir', immediately became less formal and switched to calling me mate after I had called him the same. I was genuinely impressed by this: there is nothing worse than spending an evening being called 'Sir' (in my mind at least), and it was this sort of attention to detail that made our stay relaxed.

On Day Two we went into Appleby (there isn't much there). On our return, we had Afternoon Tea, and I indulged in the excellent whiskey selection while both of us tucked into a lovely cheeseboard. The service was, as a rule, superb. The atmosphere in the hotel never fell below enchanting. The games room is a nice touch. And the conservatory and lounge areas are furnished lovely. The only complaint I have, and it's a pedantic one, but our room was ever so slightly too cold: we had to ask for an extra blanket; and the energy saving bulbs in our room took ages to enlighten my book to a readable standard. That said, it is impossible to not recommend this place: if you want a courteous, relaxing, hotel with quality food and a light, rich atmosphere that carries you away on a tide of stress relief, look no further.

A beautiful country house hotel set in the countryside surrounding the small town of Appleby in Cumbria. Good roads to the Lakes and surrounding picturesque countryside. The staff are very professional, but nothing is too much. The rooms are welcoming, clean and very comfortable. The gardens are beautifully landscaped and overlook the surrounding area. The food is fantastic and it is wonderful to try dishes never tried before, beautifully presented, tasty and filling. No matter what time of year you visit you will always leave feeling relaxed and cared for.

Room Tip: We like staying in room number 9, but all rooms are beautiful (we have tried other rooms).

We do feel passionately about the hotel and the service our guests receive, its quite personal as we put a lot of time and effort into the hotel to create a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Friends had stayed here and enjoyed it and with good reviews on Tripadvisor we chose here for a birthday night away. Charming interior - we especially enjoyed relaxing in comfortable armchairs near a blazing real fire. The dinner in the restaurant was good. All staff were pleasant and helpful. The small market town has some nice small shops and cafes. A train ride to Settle is highly recommended and in the other direction Carlisle is worth a visit. Great scenery in all directions.

I have been meaning to visit this hotel for many years as my Gt Gt Grandfather worked for the original owner/builder of the house. We stayed here for two nights B&B on a Thursday and Friday. Our double room was in the coach house across the yard on the first floor. The room was comfortable and well equipped. The main part of the hotel is a delight and has beautiful views. Breakfast choice was abundant, cereals, bread, fruit, juices, yoghurt and the full English was extremely good. The pool is small but big enough to swim about to burn off those calories eaten at breakfast. We did not have dinner on this occasion but certainly will on our next visit. The staff are very pleasant and nothing is too much trouble for them, they make the hotel what it is - a relaxing place to stay. There are lots of things to do in and around the area and electric bikes are available. Nothing disappointing here - Well done!

Stayed at the Manor beginning of December for three nights. Did two nights on a Deal monster and booked an additional extra night. There was a wedding and a firms Christmas party going on one night as well but this did not interfere with out relaxing break at all. The Manor was superb, ate in the Bistro twice and the a la carte restaurant one night. On all occasions the food was superb and the attention from all staff was brilliant. Went in the leisure centre once, more than adequate. The staff really are a credit to this hotel. Would definitely recommend this as a very relaxing break

Room Tip: Try to opt for a garden view or above. The views are stunning

I stayed here on my own for two nights last Thursday and Friday. I was back in Appleby for my daughters parents evening at the Grammar School. On that night we ate in the new bistro and the food was sublime! I then spent the evening sat in the lounge relaxing before going up to my room.

Breakfast was lovely the next morning, and I have to mention Mike who was simply a wonderful host on both mornings, what a gentleman!

My room was lovely and comfortable... and I had a television in the bathroom! The only negative and this is really picky I know, no plug sockets near the bed. I had to unplug the kettle and tv near the window in order to charge my phone and Macbook.

A wonderful stay in a wonderful hotel and I will definitely go back!!

Thank you for making my time again in Cumbria special x
