Had a lovely day with my husband at the Bowes Museum. Especially enjoyed the Catwalk exhibit there currently. Loved seeing the Alexander McQueen pieces in real life. Brilliant and diverse range of exhibits. Really enjoyed looking at the beautiful work of Charlotte Hodes aswell. Would definitely come back if we ever visit the area again. You can easily spend a good few hours there. Loved it.

This is the second time we have visited the Bowes Museum, and we had just as much fun as the first time. A family ticket is reasonably priced as you can visit as many times as you like in a year. What really stood out this year was the amazing fashion exhibition, it really blew me away! Thank you!

Visited here almost as an after thought whilst walking in the area, glad we did. Three full floors with some great works of art, a tribute to the original owners who collected most of the exhibits in a 15 year period, quite an achievement!. Temporary fashion exhibit also very good. Swan automaton switched on usually at 2 pm so time your visit to see it working.

We arrived early and spent as long as we could in each area of exhibits. The toys, dolls and games room, although small had some rare and interesting items. Next door the archaeological room concentrated on local historical items. The most time was spent in the art, ceramics and furniture areas which were absolutely amazing and some of the finest examples we have ever seen. The quality of the exhibits is remarkable, one of the finest examples being the famous Silver Swan The fashion exhibition was an added bonus as it is only showing until January and has the most important designers dresses on display such as Vivian Westwood, Alexander McQueen etc. That alone was worth the entrance fee. The building itself and grounds are also worth mentioning as they are delightful. We will definitely return as there is too much to see in one or even two visits.

The Biwes is so great it does not need any more said about it.
If you want to see the silver swan in action you need to get a front row seat by arriving in the gallery at about 1.45 for a 2.00 pm start. There is a brief talk ( exactly the same as the one on you tube by the same curator) followed by the action. Blink and you will miss it.
The current special exhibition is Catwalk and it is fabulous if you like clothes. It is based on the lifetime portfolio of a fashion photographer with the originals of many of the clothes on loan and displayed alongside the photographers from he relevant Catwalk show. All the big names in couture are there on display. Worth a visit to the Bowes just for that.

Home to small collection of things - a lot of pottery which doesn’t excite us! We particularly liked the temporary exhibition of fashion photography and clothes. Of course the swan is a thing of fascination- don’t miss it. It’s quite a lot to pay for a visit as it’s a private museum. Very nice cafe

This is a must see destination. Fantastic museum. We arrived in time for a guided tour by volunteer Win. This was great and highlighted some of the many wonderful treasures. Cafe and shop are great too.

Visited the exhibition along with my mum. We thoroughly enjoyed being up close to the clothes, as well as the photographs. This is the second exhibition we’ve seen here. They’re always extremely professionally done. As this was our second visit we only had a swift look around the museum. Can recommend the cafe/restaurant. We had both tea and cake late morning, as well as a late lunch. The size of the cake portions is huge! Mum and I shared a scone with tea. We had soup of the day for lunch, followed by a slice of frangipani tart.
