Our family have visited the Bengal Merchant on several occasions. You can be sure to receive a friendly welcome and attentive service. The menu has some unusual dishes as well as the standard Indian fare. We started with poppadoms and pickles, followed by Lamb Passanda, Chicken Sangrano (wedding dish), Chicken Hariali (tikka with garlic, cream and spinach) and a Merchant Mixed Grill. The mixed grill was especially noteworthy, consisting of chicken and lamb tikka, shish kebab and tandoori chicken with salad, very good value at £9.95. Naans were light and not greasy. A complimentary side dish of Bombay potatoes was also provided. The Bengal Merchant consistently delivers high quality food and service. Keep it up!.

Called in on my way home from Glasgow to Wetherby on a Friday night in mid January. Made very welcome.

The place was quiet when I arrived, which was a minor concern, but was heavng by the time I left.

Wasn't difficult to see why. Standard "Indian" menu though with some unusual finds and everything was well presented, flavoursome and with portion sizes that would shame the restaurants I use in Wetherby. Sag aloo was unbelievable as was the chicken tikka dhansak.

Give it a try; doesn't look that much from outside and the decor is fairly basic but these factors are forgotten once you start eating.

I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants in the North East, and this place is simply the best - great service, great food, the staff are great - just can't help going back time after time!
