Owner description: A green venture working towards an eco friendly way of living with organic, local and green thinking at the heart of everything we do. Bread and pizzas are made daily in our wood fired oven, and we serve simple rustic dishes made with local, organic and seasonal ingredients, all cooked fresh to order using traditional cooking methods. Supporting local producers the farmshop has a traditional butchers counter, delicatessen, bakery and general store with organic fruit, veg, wines, beers and baby products. All of our bread, cakes, patisserie and even chocolates are organic and are hand made in our own kitchens.

“Great quality food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

Popped in on the way over to the lakes, what a brilliant find! Food all home cooked (maybe a little expensive), but completely delicious and fantastic portion sizes. Staff were all very helpful and the place was very welcoming! Weren't sure what to get off the menu as we're both GF & lactose intolerant, but the waitress serving was very helpful with advising what we could eat. There was a great selection on the 'specials' board. Maybe try visiting during the week next time as it was very busy on a Saturday. Not sure where the other reviewers have been, as it most certainly wasn't unwelcoming! Will definitely be returning soon!

“Wedding Reception par excellence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

On the 21st December my wife and I booked to have a small wedding reception - there was only a dozen of us upstairs. The food and the service was excellent; a day to remember. My wife is American and she commented that she only wishes that where she lives there was a Cross Lanes! Children and adults alike were thrilled with the food - thank you Cross Lanes for making our day very special ineed.

“Pleasant and local”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

We visited the Cross Lanes Farm Shop for a spot of lunch and were not disappointed a good range of meals on the menu and specials board. All gave the impression of being home cooked. We tried the Hot Roast Pork sandwich which was delightful, and the Tandoori Rabbit which was a surprise on the menu but was truly wonderful.

Coffee selection was good 'Grumpy Mule' not ' Grumpy Male' as was suggested !!

Overall a nice experience although a little pricey, but pleasant location well presented and good choice in both cafe and farm shop.

Good find !

“Getting the act together”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2012

Popped into Cross Lanes on the way to Harrogate. Our initial impressions were very favourable. An excellent and impressively stocked organic retail section and an equally impressive menu. But oh dear, the service was dire. There was a function upstairs which may have been putting a strain on staff but lunch time was ending so the downstairs area was emptying - it as less than half full. The four staff spent a fair bit of time huddling behind the counter and dealing with one customer at a time. There was also considerable time spent straightening chairs but no acknowledgement to us that we would be attended to (we had already enquired at the till if it was table service) I finally hailed a chair straightening waiter and asked to be served.

Instant service isn't expected but the basic technique of letting a customer know that they have been spotted and telling them they will be attended to as soon as possible will effectively treble the time people are prepared to wait.

The cafe restaurant looked like it has a lot of local trade which is fine but travellers on the road are usually looking for a quick turnaround to get to their way.
