We stayed here for one night just before Christmas and paid £90 for room 2 at the front of the building and yes, it was clean and friendly, but really for £90 we expected more. The room was pretty dated with a mix of 1990's and 2000's decor and mismatched old style carpet. The shower room was just plastic lined walls, a sort of prefab fit thing - not tasteful at all - the sort of thing you would expect in a hostel style place. In this price bracket I expect a stylish finish. Other disappointing aspects included the noise from the street of which we could hear every word of passers by, which on a weekend only stopped in the small hours of the morning. The room needs sound proofing at the window. The pillows were also cheap of the highly filled and firm variety and it was almost impossible to get comfortable with them. In addition there were no card paymant facilities and we had to go out after breakfast to get cash as they would not accept a cheque ! Breakfast was plentiful and reasonably good but not top notch.
Overall we are very surprised that this is number one for Beverley on Tripadvisor - this lovely town must have better places than this.
Not happy at all with this place because the price does not match the room on offer.

Room Tip: Take your own pillows and remember to pack your ear plugs and make sure you take cash.

Highly recommended guesthouse in lovely Beverley under the fantastic ownership of Julie and Ray. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights recently and arrived when the Christmas lights switch on was taking place which caused Beverley to be heaving and quite chaotic initially. Ray greeted us and was very helpful in sorting parking arrangements and check-in. The location is perfect next to the Wednesday market and under the shadow of the colossal Minster. Also less than 5 min walk from the Saturday market and main shops/pubs/cafes. The rooms are nicely sized and cosy with tea/coffee facilities, plasma tv, a modern bathroom and plenty of space for luggage. The breakfast is perfect with cooked options, fresh fruit, muesli and wonderful homemade bread and jams. Julie and Ray were very friendly and made us feel at home, will definitely be back! The amazing Nellies pub and the fantastic Minster rooftop tour made it a fab weekend away.

The owners, Julie and Ray, treated us like old friends, even though this was our first visit. They are a really pleasant, friendly and welcoming couple, perfectly suited to the job they are doing. The en suite room we had was warm, comfortable and clean.

There was a very good choice at breakfast although Ray was a little disappointed we didn't eat more!

Although a town like Beverley has serious parking problems, the solution - £3 for a 7-day pass - was completely acceptable and we were able to park safely within a few yards of the front door.

We expect to be returning regularly to Beverley for the foreseeable future, and if we need to stay overnight, we won't hesitate to rebook here.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your review.
I'm sorry I came across as disappointed at you not eating more :( I just want our guests to sample the delights of our award winning breakfast, cooked fresh by Julie. Maybe when you stay next time you'll manage the Full Yorkshire :)

Look forward to seeing you both again.

All the best and have a Happy New Year

Would definitely recommend Eastgate b&b and will be back if the Beverley Real Ale Festival is on again!
Excellent room, service and breakfast. Very comfotable, clean and modern. Breakfast was the best we have ever had including a full Yorkshire spread followed by homemade bread and jams. Thanks julie & ray!

Although only a flying vist I received a warm welcome and great hospitality from Julie and Ray. This sets The Eastgate apart from some "faceless" b&b's, and I only wish I could have stayed for longer. Breakfast was superb, and the atmosphere in the dining room was second to none. This trip was for work, but I have already booked to stay for two nights when the Christmas market is on, and am really looking forward to staying for longer this time.
