Walter was most helpful, from directions for finding the place without overshooting on a one way street, to help up the stairs with our luggage, to places to see and pubs (Nellies was great) and restaurants. Newbegin is so centrally located, just a brief walk through an alley to the market square, but no noticeable traffic noise. It is lovely old mansion with furniture and fittings to match. We stayed in the Iveson Room which was very large, and with a large bathroom. The only fault was that there was no over bath shower or shower cubicle. Breakfast was plentiful and of excellent quality. A very pleasant stay.

This is a fine place to stay, quiet but very near the centre of town, with good parking facilities. The hosts, Walter and Nuala, were very welcoming, attentive and generous, helping with luggage, providing refreshment on arrival, and advising on places to see, local restaurants etc. The house is full of character, and the rooms very comfortable, with tea/coffee making facilities and other treats in the fridge. We greatly enjoyed the breakfasts, fresh fruit, lovely bread, speciality sausages and as much as we could eat, and more! Highly recommended.

We were warmly welcomed by Walter, who helped us with our luggage and then treated us to tea and homemade cake. The house itself has a long and fascinating history which is well documented. The room was spacious, well appointed and with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent.

We were recommended this B&B by my aunt who lives in Beverley and we viewed their website and called Mr Sweeney. Very helpful man who wrote and confirmed our stay for the period 4 - 6 May. We stayed in the Appleton Room which was very comfortably appointed with some very nice touches (nice bed linen and nice shower etc). The breakfast was excellent and I am still shedding the pounds but you can go for the lighter fayre only. I can throughly recommend a stay here as some of the pubs that offer B&B in Beverley looked very poor by comparison to this beautiful house. We forgot an electric toothbrush but this was kindly despatched upon request by Mr Sweeney.

We stayed for a fortnight in this delightful house while we visited family close by. The bed was very comfortable, the shower fantastic and the room large and quiet. Our hosts were very attentive and offered really good tips on places to see locally. These included taking the "Roof Tour" at Beverley Minster (just fantastic), the Guild Hall (only open Fridays), and the bluebell wood in the nearby pastures. We didn't actually get to see the bluebells and remaining stand of oak trees as the weather was not conducive to such an expedition but it sounded lovely. The house is just a quick walk from the market square - either around the streets or through a tiny lane way. Breakfast was great. The full English breakfast was so large that as we were staying for so long we had to ask for a smaller breakfast. All the food was delicious.

All of the host's family were introduced and the girls assisted with breakfast while we were there - in their school holidays. It was a very friendly place to stay.

Room Tip: There are two rooms for use by guests - one has a shower and the other a bath (with shower over). B...

We were meeting up with a group of like minded people for a weekend in a beautiful town which we had never explored before. Other B&Bs were full and we were recommended to Newbiggin House. We definitely got the best place! As soon as we walked in we felt welcomed and were being cared for. Elegant staircase, eclectic furnishings which felt they had been collected over the generations and had become part of the fabric of the building and interesting art work, everything with a 'story'. As soon as I admitted I was somewhat phobic about dogs, we never saw or heard it. That is real consideration, Thank you.

Big room ( Appleton) with all possible comforts. Proper toiletries, tissues, cotton buds, electric blanket ( if cold), fan (if hot) windup torch ( if power cut) fully adjustable heating, thick towels on heated rail, bathrobes, fantastically good shower in a roomy cubicle, top quality hair dryer with a long enough lead to reach the looking glass, choice of looking glasses!
There was real milk in the fridge ( not a mini-bar!!) as well as other cool drinks, real (and instant!) coffee, proper tea bags and decent sized mugs The textiles in the room were sumptuous, curtain over the door ensured the landing light would not disturb, window curtains were sound and light excluding. Despite being in the centre of town we heard no traffic or noise on either Friday or Saturday night. The bed was comfortable and the pillows and bed linen of high quality. Fresh flowers on the table, free WiFi and a desk with 2 chairs ( so often there only being room for one) and of course a large TV comfortably sited. A DAB radio, plenty of electric sockets for charging phone/laptop, using shaver or charging a tooth brush a facility so often missing completely.

If I were to offer constructive criticism it would be to remove the dressing mirror in the corner to allow somewhere to to put a case. (For a short stay I am reluctant to put anything in a drawer, as forgetting things is one of my greater talents). There could be fewer leaflets and brochures in the room for my taste and if the TV were hung on the wall it would allow easier access to the window for those of us who were conditioned young to need fresh air at night.

And then there was the breakfast. It was perfect in every way. The cooked meal was exactly to order, the fruit salad and yoghurt just right for those of us who prefer that and proper bread from a proper baker which had to be cut with a knife! No truck with factory sliced bread or portioned 'spreads' and 'preserves' but butter in a butter dish, jams and marmalades in proper jars with the correct spoons to serve them. Breakfast Bliss!

If we stay in Beverley again for any reason, we will look no further and we will pass on the address to our friends and relatives. A real gem.
