“Relaxing venue for Afternoon Tea”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

Two friends and I had an evening meeting in Beverley and had to kill time in that difficult period between 4pm - 6pm when so many cafes are closing or closed. I had the brilliant idea of finding a hotel for afternoon tea and after some research on the internet chose Tickton Grange. Good choice! We booked and everything was ready for us at 4pm, served by a charming young waiter with a good sense of humour. We sat on comfy settees surrounded by lovely old books in the sort of lounge with a bar that you would expect in a country house hotel. The waiter explained exactly what was in our sandwiches (smoked salmon, egg and ham), with cheese straws, delicate shortbread, chocolate brownie triangles and individual sponge cakes. Plenty of tea too and the hot water pot was particularly pretty. At £15 each this was the most reasonably priced afternoon tea I've had.

My wife and I stayed for two nights recently and dined in the Hide Restaurant on both nights.we have nothing but praise for the friendly staff (mainly members of the family who own the hotel),the food in the restaurant exceeded the three star rating althought the prices were five star - not a problem.however,a fine dining experience should be accompanied by an equivalent bar service before during and after the meal, this is an area that needs improvement. My preferred aperitive is either a Bells or Grouse Whiskey neither available,I was offered only Irish whiskey-not good.
The standard of room was well up to country house hotel standard with excellent bathroom with high quality fixtures,we would however advise avoiding room 12 which backs on to a walk in refrigerator which starts and stops every few minutes with an annoying droning noise all through the night. This may also apply to other rooms so enquire before booking.Management explained that there was nothing they could do about this,so be warned. Our first visit to this area and Beverley is a superb market town to visit.

Room Tip: Avoid room 12 due to adjacent walk in fridge-see review !

My third stay here, love coming back to this wonderful and warm family run hotel. So much attention to detail with expresso coffee machine in the room and great flapjacks. Dined at the Hide restaurant both nights, amazing food so beautifully presented. They had Nasturtium
Butter! Loved the sticky beef dish and the duck dish on the second night. Helpings were a bit large for me. Would highly recommend it.

We were recommended this hotel by friends who live nearby and we were not disappointed! The whole experience was wonderful, from start to finish, and even though we only stayed the one night, we were welcomed very warmly by Francesca who explained everything to us. Our room was extremely clean, with everything you could wish for as befits a hotel of this standard. Our friends met us for a meal at night and it was absolutely first class in every way - we were in the recently refurbished restaurant which was very elegant and had a warm and cosyfeeling, with candles etc, The food was exquisite; each course beautifully presented - a work of art on a plate - I would highly recommend the Lobster Pot as main course! Breakfast the following morning was, again, fabulous - extremely generous and the service and welcome, superb. We even had home-produced honey from their own bees in the hives in their garden! The sun was shining for our stay - the house and grounds looked so picturesque and the gardens beautifully manicured. We will definitely be returning! Top marks to Francesca on reception who simply couldn't do enough for us and has just the right personality for that position; we were made to feel so welcome as soon as we stepped through the door! Thank you again, Tickton Grange and all who work so hard there - it was fully appreciated! Steve & Lesley Taylor - Derbyshire

Room Tip: All rooms had their different charms - we didn't see them all, but this is a unique, family run...

I stayed at Tickton Grange with my husband for a family birthday party. We arrived in the afternoon and enjoyed afternoon tea in the grounds as it was such a lovely day.We had a delicious meal in the evening which was served in the newly decorated Broadley Room. The staff were friendly and attentive and a good time was had by all .Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, and breakfast was of good quality ingredients. We would definitely recommend .
