“Hidden Gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

Came across this great pub by luck. Casual Friday evening meal in a very friendly and busy pub in the middle of nowhere. Landlord and staff very helpful. A little strange to be handed a menu that did not contain any starters we thought - we ordered - I had a lamb pie (there were 30 or so different pies available) - it arrived some time later - what a pie - cooked to order, not only did we now realise why there were no starters on the menu there was no posssibility of any room to even think of a dessert. Will return.

“Perfect”

Simple food but so tasty in an environment that has fantastic service. It's like going back in time, and will certainly be going back to try another pie.

“Well worth a visit, keep up the good work John.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

After hearing excellent reviews for some time we finally decided to visit for a birthday celebration. As soon as we entered we were greeted by John who looked after us all night, we had a few extra favours to ask which were no problem and well accommodated. Bar staff and waitresses were also excellent.

Food was simply outstanding, we all ordered the various pies on offer and wasn't disappointed. Although we were tempted by the two "challenges" we decided to wait until our return in a few weeks time!

The pub is highly recommended and well worth a visit.

“Frosty unfriendly landlord”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

Went in for an early doors pint with family. found an unwelcoming long faced, sarcastic landlord. Obviously caught him on a bad day. Won't rush back while he's there. He threatened to bar an old man at the bar for whistling at him.

Beer was OK.

“fantastic country pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

First of all I'd like to point out that this place is not in Driffield, but a few miles away, in the village of Kelk. It's well worth a visit; we will definitely be going back. It is a homely country pub with a friendly landlord and staff who were effiicient without being too fussy. It is a 'pie and puddings pub', but the menu is smaller than usual at the moment (May 2013) because the lady who makes the pies has had a nasty horse-related accient. So there were onlt a dozen different pies on offer instead of the usual thirty or so! There are other ishes available, such as fish and chips and lasagne, but the pies are not to be missed. Our group had the game pies, the pork pie, and the staek and guiness pie. All were delicious and huge! We had no room for puds. unfortunately. Our bill for 4 people, including drinks, was under £80. Fantastic! You must book, because it is always busy,
