We have visited several times previously but most recently was for my birthday when we simply forgot to book a table for our party of ten on a Saturday night. Un-phased, the landlord simply said "we'll sort it for you" and we sat down with a drink and had a look at the many pies on offer. Yes there are often pies off the menu due to them selling out (steak & ale is always gone but who wants steak pie with all the variety on offer?!)

Less than 20 mins later we were shown to our table and orders were taken. To cut a long story short EVERY pie on the menu is excellent. No frills, no delicate presentation, just good home made pie stuffed with the finest ingredients and a big chunk of mash to accompany.

Great prices, even better food, a genuinely enthusiastic landlord who only adds to the occasion and overall highly recommended.

Just try not to get lost findin the place!!

This was my second visit this year and was the first place my visiting friend ( from the USA ) wanted to go when she arrived in Yorkshire. As with the last time the food was spot on and service to match, take absolutely no notice of the comments from Strawbeery, go yourself try it out and see. ps Don't plan on pudding you probably won't have room ;-)

A little gem of a pub with lovely beers, food and puddings. Been going for ages and always impressed. Will still been going when I've eaten all the pies and finally finished the big one.

Really enjoyed the ox cheek pie I had here - the options are truly amazing! If you like pies you can't do better. And the beer is good.

This is one of our regular places to eat. The selection of pies is fantastic - all home made! As a family of five vegetarians we have a great choice of pies; the chief Lucy is great at catering for special diets. Jon the landlord is an affable host and the atmosphere in the bar is always friendly. I have recommended the pub to friends and colleagues and always got positive feedback. Well worth the drive into the countryside!
