We were doing the Coastal path walk from Clovelly and stayed for one night. The hotel was comfortable with the best views. I have been visiting Hartland Quay since I was a child. I love it! The only disappointment we had was our dinner in the pub :-( The breakfast was good. The staff were excellent. It is expensive at£100 per night, but waking up in Hartland Quay was a dream come true.

Fabulous location and on a hot, sunny day we were ready for a late lunch. We ordered crab sandwiches, advertised at £7.95, which could have been overpriced. However, we were then told that they had run out. We therefore overcame our disappointment and ordered the following: ham and mustard sandwich: chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich: cranberry and brie sandwich and scampi and chips. The sandwiches were presented on boring white floury burger type buns, even though we ordered brown. The ham was thin and flavourless and very thinly spread english mustard. The bacon was almost raw, fortunately masked by the melted cheese. An abundance of cranberry almost drowned the brie. The scampi and chips were in a plastic 'basket' without salad garnish. A rather dated 70's style repast. The one good point was the basket of chips: hot, crispy and not greasy.
The potential of the location and an updated menu would make a massive difference to somewhere that seems to believe that its all about location, location, location!

This is a location that is stunningly beautiful.
Standard pub grub... Nothing fancy so don't expect high quality cuisine... But for a
Pub meal in lovely setting cannot be beaten... Selection of beers...

What a fantastic location. Practically surrounded by the sea. Plenty of places to park although I would imagine it gets very busy in summer.
My room was a little dated but in keeping with the rural coastal location and well suited to a stop off for the coast path walk. The food was very reasonable. (Three mixed "sliders" with chips coleslaw and salad...£10).
Beer was also good but the best bit was being 50 yards (MAX) from the sea!
Bet the sunsets are lovely given nice weather.

A stunning position and a most pleasant experience. We had 2 nights with a room -binoculars provided-nice touch -to relax in the evening sun watching the ever changing sea crashing on the fantastic rock formations. Our room was was just fine pleasantly basic. Ideal for us walkers with good friendly service where nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We will visit again!

The hotel is a lot bigger and more active than the south west path book suggests, this is not a bad thing. Rooms are fairly recently redecorated, although masses of water leaked on to the floor from the shower. There are baths in some rooms. Staff were amateur and food was disappointing. Great location, good hotel poor management.

We stayed here for one night whilst I walked the South West Coast Path.
The end room we stayed in had the most magnificent view over the ocean. Truly stunning. The room was large and clean. Had a very pleasant meal. Service was good.
