We popped in for a quick drink on one of the stormiest days of the year (02/11/13) The huge seas were crashing onto the rocks and spray covering the cars in the car park. There were a good number of others there drawn by the spectacular views and extreme weather.

The building is a little tired looking but can perhaps be excused due to the constant exposure to the weather.

There are a couple of real ales on offer and a selection of bar snacks which we didn't partake in. Service was friendly and our short stop was a welcome respite from the stormy weather outside.

Good beer, decent bar grub and friendly staff. The bar is cosy on a stormy night and outside the tourist season it's a brilliant venue. I've never been there in july/august, but in september and october it's great.
Visit the museum opposite the pub for some harrowing tales of sea-borne disaster too.

Never stayed the night there but I'd love to. We've had numerous family drinking sessions though!

Fantastic location - super view from bedroom of sea and rocks. A geologist's dream with different strata at all angles. Very quiet, except crashing waves - you feel isolated - no phone reception although there is free Wi-Fi in the bar. Brilliant walks from the hotel. The rooms are tired, no shower or way of washing your hair, but I did appreciate the settee where you could watch the waves. Breakfast is good but the Wreckers bar next door had good beer and atmosphere but the food was a let down. Poor quality "ping ping" food or straight from a packet/freezer.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

Beautiful views from our spacious, clean, fresh and comfortable room. the sound of the waves crashing onto the rocks through the night was magical and calming which aided a peaceful sleep. The staff were always on hand with helpful suggestions on walks and activities, nothing was to much for them in making our stay perfect, they were interest in our wedding, wanting to know all the details, which made me feel very special and were thrilled to know we had choosen their hotel to have our honeymoon. the breakfast was just what was needed to get you going for the day and tasty too. the food in the pub was spot on. drinks always serve with a smile, atmosphere relaxed and so very friendly. lots of parking at the end of cute drive down with a wow factor. this is a great little retreat for a relaxing break away from the rest of the world, cant wait to go back again.

Room Tip: sea view room.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Hartland Quay Hotel with a group of friends and I have to say that the welcome, accommodation and food was spot on... Value for money can not fault it!!!

This was my first visit there however my friends stayed last year and we will be looking forward to spending a weekend there again next year if not before.

You may come across some interesting locals from the Hartland Coastguard Team who enjoy a beer or 12!!!

After a 10 mile walk around Hartland, we rounded off our day with a visit to Hartland Quay. What a stunning location. You would find it hard to ever beat this coastal location.

The bar is dog friendly, so that was brilliant for us. It was fairly empty on a sunny but chilly day in October at around 4pm. We ordered a cream tea, which was perfect and absolutely delicious. The bar is fairly rustic and dated, but every comfortable and that added to the charm of the place. The staff also were extremely friendly and obliging.

Thoroughly recommended!

Drank at the Wreckers Retreat which must have the most amazing view of any pub I've visited! The bar itself is charming but not renovated recently (which is exactly why I found it charming). I grabbed a pint of Wreckers and sat outside to take in the views of the dramatic coastline. It's well worth the drive although I imagine very busy in summer.
