The Burton Art Gallery in Victoria Park, Bideford, has become a real treasure. The mixed media work by Michael Brennand Wood was beautiful and thought-provoking. This is typical of the exhibits presented at the Gallery.
Upstairs local history is featured. We spent quite a while reading through the binder on WWII in Bideford which was where many children from London and the north were evacuated during the blitz. Although I grew up at the time and was in school with many of the children, I learned a lot from the binders and displays. The Cafe du Parc which is attached to the Burton is a great place for lunch.

Just been to see the Michael Brennand-Wood exhibition. Fabulous if you love colour and the slightly whacky. This exhibition finishes on the 19th April so you need to be quick. Looking forward to the next exhibition Modern Masters in Print; Matisse, Picasso, Dali and Warhol opens 4th May. There is always something different ranging from the quirky, to old masters. Also a small but good local museum along with talks/activities/workshops & gallery showcasing a few local craft workers. We are lucky to have this lovely gallery and museum in North Devon.

A pleasant gallery where the items are well displayed, the standard of the items for sale is to a good standard.

Not normally my thing but I was invited to attend a preview here of a new art exhibition. The gallery is clean, well run and easy to get around. I was impressed by how keenly many of the other attendees enjoyed the art work and the visiting expert added lots of interesting detail in his talk. I've also heard that the cafe is excellent, although didn't have time to try it myself. Considering this is run by the council and has free entry, its well worth a visit. They also have lost of activity events for all ages, so worth checking out their website to see whats on when visiting Bideford.

We visited Bideford and were somewhat underwhelmed with the town but impressed by the Bideford Museum. There was a exhibition by Clive Bowen a local potter firing his pots and just had to buy one of his pots! After buying it we were informed by the curator who told us all about him and the local slipware, where a lot of the chards were found etc. A very entertaining afternoon was had by all...
Visit this Museum, also has the tourist information in it but don't visit the cafe run by grumpy French men...
