We stayed at the Durrant House Hotel for a Friday to Monday coach break with GB Tours. On arrival we were welcomed warmly and told about the booking in and facilities of the hotel. We were issued card-keys (which were also the power-keys for the room) after a returnable deposit of £1 (makes sure you don't go home with it!). Our room was large and well furnished to a high standard with a luxury, very comfortable double bed and even a settee so we could relax and watch the large flat screen tv mounted on the wall (or even lie in bed to watch). Also a telephone and cd clock radio was provided but as the power was off when you left the room we didn't bother resetting it. The tea/coffee/chocolate/biscuits tray was always well-stocked. The bathroom was of a high standard with a modern glass-topped sink and fixed over-head pan-style shower over the bath. There was always sufficient hot water day or night. Internet access was provided in the lobby at a small charge.Breakfast at 08.45 consisted of help yourself variety of cereals, juice and toast (not the quickest of conveyor toasters though) and self-service tea or coffee. A typical fried English breakfast followed which was nicely cooked or you could have a kipper. The waiting staff were efficient and pleasant, always looking to see if anyone needed anything. This was despite it getting busier over the weekend with the arrival of a 4th coach. The evening meal was again of a high standard and cooked well. A choice of three starters, three main course and three sweets followed by coffee, all served efficiently and politely. Drinks were served in the Appledore bar or, later in the evening, the bar in the main dining/entertainment room. Each evening there was free musical entertainment provided which most people either enjoyed or appreciated. On our first full day we were treated to a free Devon cream tea which was served on our arrival back after an excursion - a very nice extra. All in all, a very pleasant stay in a well appointed hotel. Despite it being a fairly large hotel it never really seemed it. We always felt comfortable and our room with its view of the river and swimming pool was excellent. Definately recommended and we'll stay again next time.

Room Tip: Best views from rooms 138 - 150 approx.

The let down was the standard of the maid service in the bedroom. The bathroom had obviously had a revamp recently, but when we found a mouldy bathmat, and a shower curtain very badly stained and stiff with build up of grot all along the bottom,we were very surprised, obviously a little more attention in the cleaning department is necessary. A case of more haste less speed! The lift is totally inadequate for the size of hotel, restriction is four persons only. We often had to wait quite a few minutes at busy times, we were on the second floor, on one occasion, when staff were taking cases down for a party that were leaving, we stood waiting for the lift, finally it arrived with a member of staff in it. who told us we could not use it, and to use the stairs. I pointed out that we were both restricted where stairs were concerned, with very obvious anoyance,he let us use it.

Visited with a coach party at a great price for 3 nights and very pleased with the accommodation and the food and the service; the food was especially good for mass catering. Handy bus stop across the road as well.

I i was very impressed with your the staff at the Durrant house Hotel yesterday. Being very disorganised I started thinking that we might like to go out for lunch about 1pm. As there were 17 of us I probably should have planned it earlier. However I phoned the Durrant and spoke to the receptionist who then consulted with the restaurant manager and they told us to come over.

the restaurant manager was very welcoming and told me very apologetically that we would have to go in the restaurant downstairs as they were full in the Olive Tree. We went downstairs and had the whole restaurant to ourselves which was great. We had our own personal waitress but the restaurant manager also came down a couple of times to make sure that everything was in order. The waitress was extremely polite and attentive and managed finally to get everyone’s orders.

I had the lasagne which I really enjoyed. My Mum had the fish and chips, one of my sisters had the sausages and mash and I think all the others had the roast dinner. Everyone enjoyed the food and then we had the puddings. I had the crème brulee which was divine, my nephews and son thoroughly enjoyed the gateau and the rest had various other things. We all had a great time and the poor girl was working out all the bills at the end with no complaint. They really were fantastic and I would give them a five star accolade for all their hard work.

Durrant house is an excellent hotel. Mainly catering for coach holidays. The rooms are quite large and well furnished. The food is fantastic but served very early. Breakfast is at 08:10 and dinner is served at 18:30! Free WiFi in most parts of the hotel but logging in is a bit of a pain with the password changing every day. The hotel is about a mile from Bideford. The surrounding area is fantastic with some lovely places to visit if you have a car.

Evening entertainment is variable, from a night of bingo to an excellent singer.
