“Very disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

We have visited in the past and have had excellent experiences and that's why we chose there tonight. However, it was like a different place.

Drinks - my coke was flat.

Starters, my calamari was plentiful but completely average and the side salad was simply cabbage (we think!), old and yellowing. The mushrooms looked miserable and unappetising but tasted ok, and again came with a poor side salad.

For her main, my mum ordered a rib eye steak, which was literally all that was written on the menu (ie no sides or sauces offered as an accompaniment). Underneath was a separate list of Side Salads, so she ordered the tomato and onion salad to accompany her rib-eye, assuming this was what she should do, and given the price of everything else, it seemed probable! The waitress accepted the order, only asking how the steak was to be cooked. When it arrived, first came the tomato and onion salad (on a large dinner plate, at least 2 large beefsteak tomatoes sliced with onion on top - no seasoning), then came the steak, which came with another rubbish cabbage 'salad', and then came the dauphinois potatoes, more cabbage and ratatouille! None of these vegetable dishes were mentioned on the menu or by the waitress, deeming the tomato salad completely unnecessary!

My pizza was soggy, greasy and just like they had ordered it in from Dominos for me - and I could have got it cheaper at Dominos too!

My brother had pasta, a vast portion with no flavour, despite it supposedly (and weirdly) having a curry flavoured sauce! It was too much and the best part of it was the Parmesan and pepper added at the table.

In terms of customer service, the waitress certainly could have paid more attention to what was being ordered. In addition to this, during the meal my brother was discussing his pasta with us, when a member of staff came and stood next to him, muttered something about the chef, to which he said "sorry?" and she mocked him for having not eaten as much as me. And then she left. How rude.

Anyway...so the biggest kick in the teeth was having to pay for any of our very disappointing food, but receiving a bill of £76 was just depressing. What a waste of money and an evening.

“A real taste of Italy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

In February 2014, on the recommendation of friends, we had lunch with them at Il Palio 2 in Brockenhurst; an Italian restaurant in what had formerly been the engine shed attached to Brockenhurst Station (which is just across the car park). Don't let that image put you off; it is well worth the trip. The restaurant has real 'atmosphere', the service is first class and the food is outstanding and authentically Italian. Indeed, the generous portions mean that the wonderful minestrone soup is a meal in itself!

“BEWARE OF THE BILL”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2014

Food is expensive and of only average quality although portions are large. My bill was full of errors - wrong prices for dishes, wrong price for wine and added up incorrectly. ALL ERRORS IN FAVOUR OF THE HOUSE!EXPENSIVE AND DODGY SEEMS A FAIR SUMMARY.

“Enjoyable Meal.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

We had a very nice meal. Efficient service and we enjoyed excellent, tasty Italian food. It was nice to see several vegetarian options on the menu which were not pizza based.

The one disappointment was the desert my partner ordered which was a pre made ice cream desert. This was not very nice, however the "home made" dessert I had was lovely. I therefore would recommend you go for one of the home made deserts.

One other observation was that the meal was a bit pricey. This could be due to the area though.
