We stayed 1 night at this b&b and had both cream tea and breakfast here ! All 5* when comes to food and room , waitress weary nice and helpful , shame restaurant wasn't open in the evening , in my opinion it could do with an update as it it feels slightly dated , however , very cosy rooms and nice atmosphere !
Cakes amazing ! Try the coffee and walnut , must be one of the best ever tried , think its made by the owners mum ! A must try !

Stumbled upon this place by chance and what a treat. All three courses brilliant (for both of us), and presentation gorgeous. Spent about £80 including wine. Recommend: wild mushroom & maze bread, pâté starter, venison pottage, lamb plate, strawberry sorbet. And if you order red have your wine decanted into one of their ornamental decanters for the quirky glamour.

The food was really lovely. Very well cooked and thought through. The dessert especially was fantastic. The chocolate assortment is to die for! Shame about the inexperienced waiting staff.

On Saturday we went all the way to Brokenhurst to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday and as our son is at University in Southampton we thought it would be nice to have cream tea at the Thatched Cottage in the afternoon. We drove all the way from Torquay for this special cream tea just to find out that the restaurant was empty, -the chef had gone home 40 minutes before 5pm! That left us all very disappointed as we had been looking forward to having a nice cream tea / afternoon tea there. We asked if there were other places that they could recommend and all we got was that there are some nice cafes in Brokenhurst. We ended up going to Lyndhurst were we had a really nice cream tea. I would not recommend this place to anyone! Such a shame!

This is a beautiful thached cottage and on entering there are beams, chandeliers and it is beautifully decorated, in the middle is a lovely table with the most gorgeous looking cakes. We both had the cream tea which is £6 for 3 warm baby scones per person, clotted cream and jam and a pot of tea. The crockery used is beautiful and everyone is given a different vintage tea pot. I would have given this 5 stars and really wanted to but it was let down by the messy reception corner with a bucket of cleaning products left out and by the young unfriendly staff. There was only one other table when we arrived but it took them ages to come over to us, they just kept wandering passed and looking like they really didn't want to be there and this does make you feel a little uncomfortable, the only time our waitress smiled was when she was waiting for a tip. I really hate to give this tea room a negative comment as it is a lovely place, but if the staff were friendly this would be absolutely excellent. Definitely worth a visit just to see the beautiful interior and enjoy the wonderful food, the soup and sandwiches also looked delicious. It is difficult to rate this tea room on atmosphere etc as the atmosphere of other diners is lovely as you can see how much everyone loves the interior and taking pictures, but unfortunately the staff let this down.
