We booked in for a two night stay and was the very first people to stay in the Verbena as it had just been completely overhauled. This is a separate building to the main thatched cottage and is situated direct behind it. The room as you would expect after an overhaul was impeccable, in fact probably still needed one or two small details needed finishing. But these were of no significance. The only possible drawback for some people is there is an adjoining door to another room, which we assume is a bedroom as we heard snoring coming from there. I'm not entirely sure what the set up is there, but think it would be more private without the door. There was no hair dryer in the room and for the first time ever my other half had forgotten hers! So I was sent to enquire about one. Martin the owner said he hadn't got them for the rooms yet but would sort something out. Which he did, 5 minutes later there was a knock at the door and he was standing there with a brand new hairdryer. Well done that man! The breakfasts both days were superb, great selection to chose from and all well cooked. Even better than that it is served until 11am. Result! The breakfast room is great a real quirky room with bundles of character. Lots of eclectic bits and pieces, teapots and fine bone china cups. It is within the main thatched cottage, which you can also stay in. Jazz playing quietly in the background. Outside along the passageway the is a graveyard for all the old teapots and a sign reading "died in service" Brilliant!!! Martin is a friendly and approachable guy, but gives you your own space and makes you feel at home. The location is great, there plenty of pubs and restaurants in walking distance and the New Forest is on hand to explore.
If I had to find fault (which is in think the idea of reviewing) then when the room was cleaned it was only half done! One glass cleaned/replaced the other left. The dirty cups and saucers were still there, which is probably the worst part of the whole stay! So with that in mind I would say overall very good indeed. Sort those little details and the place is perfect.

My partner and I have just spent 3 wonderful days at the cottage. We stayed in the Assam Bop room and it was lovely. Really comfortable bed and great toiletries in the ensuite bathroom. The breakfasts were the best we have ever had, even in the best hotels. Locally sourced bacon and sausages, fresh fruit and croissants and a great choice of cooked food. The homemade jams and marmalade were so good, that we asked if we could buy some to take home. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

I loved the cosy little cottage, the food was so so good and the staff were great, very relaxed atmosphere and comfy bed! It's got character so be prepared for the quirky nature. The staff looked after my mum for her Birthday with a gorgeous little Birthday Cake and breakfast in bed. We brought our own wine and the staff were so helpful providing glasses ice and bottle opener for the room.

It was our first visit to the New forest so weren't sure what to expect of Brockenhurst, if you are after something secluded and romantic this is it! We stayed in the Assam Bop room it was a lovely room only down side was it is right next to the dining room which can be noisy in the morning! Had our own steam shower which was lovely but ran out of hot water in the mornings!
If you are up for seeing more of the forest on bike I highly recommend the guys at cycle experience just the other side if Brockenhurst station, they exceeded our expectations with maps & the quality of the bikes it was an amazing way to see the Forest at its best.
Overall I feel the Thatched Cottage slightly pricey but would stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights in October 2012. We were so happy with our room - the Earl Grey. It was adorable, comfortable, had everything we needed and was amazing to explore and look around. It is really oldy worldy and the whole place is decorated so uniquely and with so many lovely trinkets to admire. The only thing about the room we chose was that there wasn't a stand up shower, and you had to have a bath really as the roof slopes, but for a couple of days it was a novelty and didn't put us off at all. The service was great - they left us to our own devices but were there as soon as we needed anything. We had breakfast in bed which was such a treat and it is a great location as there are lots of pubs/restaurants within a minute's walk for evening meals. Breakfast was gorgeous - really good choice, healthy if you want or traditional English too. It didn't feel like it was greasy at all - the veggie breakfast is recommended. We loved this place and would go back. Such a treat in the heart of the New Forest for some great walks.
