We booked in for a two night stay and was the very first people to stay in the Verbena as it had just been completely overhauled. This is a separate building to the main thatched cottage and is situated direct behind it. The room as you would expect after an overhaul was impeccable, in fact probably still needed one or two small details needed finishing. But these were of no significance. The only possible drawback for some people is there is an adjoining door to another room, which we assume is a bedroom as we heard snoring coming from there. I'm not entirely sure what the set up is there, but think it would be more private without the door. There was no hair dryer in the room and for the first time ever my other half had forgotten hers! So I was sent to enquire about one. Martin the owner said he hadn't got them for the rooms yet but would sort something out. Which he did, 5 minutes later there was a knock at the door and he was standing there with a brand new hairdryer. Well done that man! The breakfasts both days were superb, great selection to chose from and all well cooked. Even better than that it is served until 11am. Result! The breakfast room is great a real quirky room with bundles of character. Lots of eclectic bits and pieces, teapots and fine bone china cups. It is within the main thatched cottage, which you can also stay in. Jazz playing quietly in the background. Outside along the passageway the is a graveyard for all the old teapots and a sign reading "died in service" Brilliant!!! Martin is a friendly and approachable guy, but gives you your own space and makes you feel at home. The location is great, there plenty of pubs and restaurants in walking distance and the New Forest is on hand to explore.
If I had to find fault (which is in think the idea of reviewing) then when the room was cleaned it was only half done! One glass cleaned/replaced the other left. The dirty cups and saucers were still there, which is probably the worst part of the whole stay! So with that in mind I would say overall very good indeed. Sort those little details and the place is perfect.
