We have just come back from a great weekend break at The Pig. It's a great hotel in a beautiful setting and we'll definitely be coming back again. Here's our summary of the place.

Hotel grounds/common areas. The hotel has undergone a very stylish refurbishment and looks amazing. The grounds are lovely with lots of green space, a walled garden, and a nice outdoor seating area with a fire going in the evenings. Inside, there is a fantastic lounge, bar and dining room. It feels like a relaxed country house, which is exactly what it is.

Room. We stayed in a spacious room. It was a great size, with a large four-poster bed, small dressing room and separate bathroom with a roll-top bath and a "monsoon" shower. It was really well furnished; shabby chic probably best describes it.

Staff: Everyone we met was very friendly, helpful and relaxed. We were welcomed with smiling faces and really made to feel at home.

Restaurant: The dining room is in the hotel's conservatory - great for sunsets and excellent views of the grounds. The food was very good and virtually all of it is sourced locally. We had some issues with the service (see below), but the overall experience was good. Locals come to eat there which says it all really.

Now, for the nit-picks. These aren't major issues but should be mentioned given we were paying £200 a night:

1. The hotel backs onto a train line. The trains are regular so if you are a very light sleeper it could bother you.

2. The hotel is still finishing its refurbishment. They are renovating some of the accommodation by the walled garden. It is well away from the main house but the builders could at least turn their music off so that we didn't have to listen to it when walking round the walled garden.

3. We had some problems with the service at dinner. We are asked for our wine choice before they took our food order, and then the waiter told us that one of the dishes my wife wanted was not available. This should have been explained at the start and before our wine had been served. We were also given someone else's bill at the end of the meal.

4. When we checked-out they had mistakenly billed us for another guest's dinner and other items we hadn't had! This was quickly corrected but I don't know how it happened as they should have had a copy of our bill from the meal itself.

However, overall we had a great stay and The Pig comes highly recommended.

Thank you for giving us your feedback, we really apreciate that you have taken the time to review your recent stay with us. It is always extremely helpful to get feedback from guests as it helps us to iron out any of the underlying problems that you found and allows us to improve on our services. I'm sorry if you were affected by the train noise, I hope it did not spoil your stay and apologies for the mistake at the end of your stay. I hope that you will return to see us in the future when we hope to have all of these problems sorted.
Kind Regards
Victoria

After having looked on here & The Pig Hotels own website we were not expecting "great things" at first but when we found the property & pulled up through the gates past the beautiful signage we were totally impressed & both said that the photos on website really do not do the place justice!! It's beautiful, the re-furbishment is excellent & the thought that has gone into everything is amazing!!! The staff were very attentive & friendly and very welcoming towards our two children, everything aired of a relaxed atmosphere & we all felt immediately comfortable. Our room was great, the grounds of the hotel were beautiful and the outdoor wood burning fire section was very nice indeed, the conservatory dining room was also lovely. The only downsides were a few trains whizzing past on the track at the very bottom of the grounds of the hotel & our particular evening meal in the restaurant was not great, oh & we couldn't seem to shut the bathroom window fully.....other than those few points we had a great time and would recommend this hotel without any hesitation.....a pleasant surprise on our arrival I would say :)))
