This is our idea of the perfect place to stay - lovely room, personal (lovely, friendly, helpful people), fresh (not worn-out or industrial hotel furnishings), characterful, good food, well located...wonderful!
We stayed in the Magic Carpet Suite which is a large bright room with sofa, table and chairs (from Chewton Glen) as well as a small kitchen area with a well-stocked fridge and store cupboard. We really enjoyed just being there. Sue doesn't cook breakfast. Instead she supplies everything you might want to make your own. We had smoked salmon, duck eggs, raspberries, yoghurt, cereal and much more. She even asks you beforehand what you like and encourages you to eat whatever you like whenever you want. It gives a whole new meaning to 'all day breakfast'! You get all the benefits of a great B&B as well as the convenience and saving of not having to eat out. So relaxing!
The location is excellent - central for the New Forest; direct access for cycling off-road; shops, train and cycle hire an easy walk away. The house is at the end of a small lane so there is no traffic noise. Satellite view shows a few houses nearby but when you get there they are hidden by trees and you hardly know they exist.
We booked for two nights and stayed for three. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you, Sue.

Room Tip: Talk to Sue! She even tailors the decor to suit your mood. The Magic Carpet Suite is the largest wit...

We traveled down to Brockenhurst in the first weekend of July. Sue is such a wonderful host. Considerate, personal and attentive. When we arrived we were driven around the area and shown the wonderful views available, whilst being taught about the history and values of the New Forest. We stayed in the Princess and the Pea suite, which for the quirkier members of the public is a must. With your own kitchen (which is fully stocked with the finest food you order) you will never go hungry here.

The trip itself was beautiful but it was the home we came back to in the evening that made it. The witch on the staircase, the goblin on the stairs and the trinket tree trunk made it all the more enjoyable and far removed from the harsh and desensitised rooms that can often divorce you from a relaxing experience.

Thank you Sue! We aim to cross paths with you again one day!

We visited Broad Oak for the first time last year and knew we’d be back as it was honestly one of the most fabulous week’s holidays I can remember us having. This year sadly we were only there for a long weekend and therefore the only complaint I had about our return visit would be that it was far too short :-( We desperately didn’t want to leave and whilst I won’t be able to do our wonderful experience justice in a tripadvisor review I will try! Sue (& Mike, although we saw less of him this year!) are the most lovely people you can imagine and perfect hosts – we felt entirely spoiled and quite overwhelmed by their generosity. Far more than just a room, Broak Oak is a real home-from-home – or possibly even more homely than our actual home, in fact! The rooms have their own kitchen area which is stocked up with the most INCREDIBLE array of food – it’s absolutely amazing and there’s plenty for breakfast and way, way more besides! Above and beyond delicious bread, a selection of milk, cereal, tea, coffee, pasta, soup etc. Sue spoils you truly rotten with fresh ham from the farm, smoked salmon, artisan cheeses, all the lovely fresh eggs you could wish for, wine, cake, bacon – the list goes on!!! I wish our cupboards were stocked so well at home! Forget breakfast – there’s plenty for picnic lunches, dinners and snacks besides! The rooms and the B&B itself is really magical, none of the boring run-of-the-mill, bland and void of personality décor that you find in e.g. a Premier Inn. The style is really inspiring, everything reflects the host and hostess’ (I say that more than landlord and landlady because you do feel like very special guests more than paying visitors – I can’t stress this enough!!!) amazing personalities – beautiful furnishings and amazing comfy bed, fab en suite bathroom… I miss it already! What’s more, the location is gorgeous – right in the New Forest and we KEPT on saying how lovely and peaceful it is there – you truly are away from it all and can’t help but relax :-) There are lovely little ponies and cattle roaming around and Brockenhurst village itself totally manages to retain the Olde Worlde tranquillity whilst still offering up a couple of lovely pubs and restaurants and tea shops etc. so you don’t feel too isolated at all and always have somewhere to walk to, should you fancy a meal or drink out etc. If you want to go a bit further afield, like we did on a couple of days, there are some lovely beaches just a short train ride away (we went to both Bournemouth and Christchurch this year to take advantage of the fabulous weather – and whilst last year we didn’t enjoy the heat wave during our stay, that didn’t matter either because we did plenty of cycling and walking around the area which was equally brilliant, just different!). I’m sure you’ve got the idea by now, but just in case you somehow haven’t PLEASE GO AND VISIT!!! You won’t regret it!!! I’m sure you’ll want to go back time and again – like us, we’re already looking forward to next year’s trip :-) THANK YOU SUE!!! Xxxxx.

Another work trip and another B&B..... or so i thought!

From the moment i spoke to Sue on the phone i knew i had to visit this B&B from the way in which Sue spoke. Mike and Sue are two of the nicest B&B owners that i have met but more importantly two of the most interesting which is reflective in the B&B.

Where do i start... First of all, the B&B is practically on the New Forest, it is set off a dirt track and in a private road which gives it an air of serenity from the moment you arrive. The New Forest is one of the most magical places that i have worked in, i work in the outdoors specifically all over the country. All the places i visit have spectacular beauty, however, there is something special about this area with the wild horses and cattle roaming free, the forest magic is all around... truly beautiful.

This B&B is not standard, nor is it mainstream for many many reasons, all of which are positive for those of you who are looking for a mini home from home not a room which you are banished to for the nights you stay (i have been in many of those - not comfortable to say the least!).

The B&B is unique and 'querkie', it is a magical space with a real energy of it's own from the fairytale secrets for children to the healing energy it holds within it's rooms. Each room is bespoke and homely with unique decoration. If you are looking for 'boutique' mainstream style it is not for you, as both Sue and Mike have individuality which is rare to see in the B&B arena.

The best thing for those who stay in B&B's on a regular basis is that you do not have to get up early for breakfast! Each room has it's own small area where you can prep food whenever you want. Sue provides an amazing selection of food for you which doesn't seem possible given the price charged per night! I personally think they are undercharging for this!!! (and i told her!)

Food i was supplied on top of the two cupboards full of cereal, tea, coffee, soups, tinned food etc:

Smoked salmon, king prawns, humous, brie, fresh bread, eggs, fruit, yoghurts, cake, bacon - just to name a few! Everything was fresh as well, bought the day i arrived.

For those of you who don't stay in B&B's regularly, whilst most provide a standard breakfast (some better than others) you spend a great deal of extra money on lunch, snacks and evening meals so the prices often ends up far higher than you imagined..... here .... what can i say.... tooooooo cheap given all that you get!

The bed - unbelievable! i actually want to buy it! Huge and extra comfy.

The shower - great, powerful and hot!

Late check out - 6pm (wonderful, wonderful and even more wonderful!)

Another bonus to this B&B is it's locality not only to a pretty village, access immediately to the Forest with the wild horses and cattle. It has full access to wonderful beaches including direct routes to Bournemouth - perfect location! Sue actually gave some guests a lift to the beach! They also pick up from the station (again, another service which isn't included in the cost - just because they are nice!)

Why would you choose this B&B and why am I raving on about it.... in all the B&B's i've visited which have been a lot, i have been lucky to have found great ones (the odd one i haven't thought any good, i haven't written a review as - 'if you have nothing nice to say... say nothing at all!).... This has to be the best by far because of it's unique querkie/spiritual vibe and the owners.

The thing i am saddest about is the fact i visited whilst on work, this meant that i didn't get enough time to spend at the B&B because i would have thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with both Sue and Mike! .... so i will visit again for sure.

thank you for making my stay so nice.... it truly was lovely!

Room Tip: Sue will advise as she tries to ensure everyone gets what is right for them!

Our long weekend getaway to explore the New Forest would not have been as good without staying at the magical Broad Oak - it's a unique place, full of surprises, located in between the village center and the heather-filled moors.
Our friendly, considerate and sincere hosts Sue and Mike made the stay homely and comfortable throughout. It is really rare to find holiday accommodation like Broad Oak and meet such people nowadays who have all the right attributes to be marvelous hosts.
They continuously provided excellent service, such as picking us up and dropping us off at the station, giving us a tour of the area, and providing an astonishing amount of food and refreshments.
We stayed in the "Magic Carpet Room", which was very comfortable and included facilities such as a fridge full of good food, kitchen area, TV and DVD player, dining table, etc. Sue even went to the trouble of giving us a huge cake as it was our anniversary and, even more importantly, made sure that the supply of beer didn't run out!
11 out of 10!

We stayed for two nights in the magic carpet suite and we couldn't fault it. Our room was lovingly furnished with attention to detail and it was a great size. We were also amply provided for with gorgeous food in our suite. Sue, our host, couldn't be more accommodating and nothing was too much trouble, from lifts to the station to showing us the local sights. Broadoak is a beautiful house and is in a perfect location, with lovely walks starting from just outside the house. We were very sorry to leave!

We returned home this afternoon from a wonderful 3night stay in the Magic Carpet room. What a fabulous time. Our daughter adored the magic of Broad Oak and really didn't want to return home. We had the most yummy food topped up in our fridge and two lovely hosts. Our room was perfect. We really can not wait to return to this beautiful place. Totally wonderful.
