I stayed at the Filly Inn for 2 nights Monday 9th - leaving Wednesday 11th January. I was with my dog Frank and we had a most enjoyable stay at this wonderful 16th century inn. George the owner states on the website not to expect the Hilton and I did not but what I did experience was a comfortable stay in a room that was basic but nevertheless clean and comfy. The view from my window was of the heath and loads of New Forest Ponies - idillic.
I was really worried about the traffic noise at first but forgot the traffic was there after a while.
From the back of the Inn car park was was a nice 30 minute walk with the dog - ideal just before having breakfast or of an evening.
The breakfast was well cooked and presented and set me up for a days walking with the dog. I had lunch at the Inn on the Tuesday having the Haddock Mornay which was really tasty and rather a large portion of homemade bread and butter pudding which was incredible.
The dog was welcome and the staff were accomodating and friendly and as a lone traveller it was nice to have someone to chat to at breakfast as the staff prepared my coffee and breakfast.
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Filly Inn - would I return - yes I would.

Room Tip: The only room they allow dogs in as a general rule is room one which is not on suite but there is a...

**Please note that The Filly Inn is now under new ownership. With a fresh new team of friendly staff, great chefs and a sizable investment in the buildings and large gardens we hope to vastly improve this beautifully located country pub. In particular our guest rooms have been completely revamped to make them warm, bright and cosy. We have contacted Trip Advisor to make them aware of this change but please note that these comments no longer relate to the current business.**

we booked a table for lunch coming up to christmas, it was a cold day and asked to be seated somewhere warm, no chance, the place was freezing and we had to eat with our coats on, our comments on how cold it was were ignored.
The food was of very poor quality for the prices charged, the steak was like leather and the staff not interested when this was mentioned, the wild mushroom stroganoff inedible, the whole experience was very disappointing, we would never go again.

Booked a meal for 11 People, 6 of whom could not move from the table as the "pack them in" game was very evident. Service was awful, as was the food. We had to wait almost an hour to get our main courses and then they did not arrive together. The food was of very poor quality and many meals were not cooked properly. Our visit was to celebrate our Mother's 85th Birthday- What a total disaster- we will never return again.

This is a quaint 16th century public house with accommodation & restaurant. Our first opinion on arriving and pulling into the car park was "tired and unkept". We went into the pub and were greeted well by Sam. We were staying for two nights, booked mainly because we had a Groupon voucher for the restaurant, £19 for two people for three courses. The pub was a typical country inn, dark, beams, log fires a warm and friendly place. We were shown our room, having to go outside and entering from an outside door. The entrance and stairway was "shabby" and in need of decorating. The carpet was old and fraying. we were taken over a landing passing through what look like the owners kitchen. Our room was a double bed en suite. It had a dormer window making the ceiling low in places. the bed was comfortable with clean linen and fresh white towels. The room was a bit of a mish mash as nothing really matched. the light fitting were all different, curtains and bedding not matching. There was a beverage tray available. The en suite was small, you could not open the shower door fully as it connected with the toilet. It was in need of a total refurbishment, tap moved when turned, basic maintenance ignored throughout. The bedroom had a patio door which led out onto the roof of the kitchen and restaurant.
The restaurant was fairly busy due to the Groupon voucher deal which many cients had.
The staff were very helpful and friendly as was the manager George. The food was of good quality, hot, cooked well, nicely presented. On the one night there was live entertainment advertised but never materielised. Overall and quaint, 16th century inn in the middle of the New Forest with a great restaurant and staff. The accommodation lets it down and in my opinion not worth the £80 per night B & B albeit the breakfast was a simple, well cooked full English (no menu to choose from). There are many B & B's & hotel around to choose from and am sure if you search well would come up with some good value B & B's although the filly is very worthy of an evening meal.

After reading a review from the South Hampshire Pub Guide I was expecting great food, a wide selection of ales and a friendly homely atmosphere. In fairness, the staff seemed friendly and there were no real problems with the service but the food was certainly not great and the ale selection was not wide.

We had an Anti Pasti sharing platter (£10) which was poorly presented and unimaginatively flavoured. This was followed by pork medallions with new potatoes and veg. The veg was watery and overcooked and the pork was very average for £12.95. My wife had fish and chips, which she said were good.

There were 2 ales available, though the 49er was very good, it wasn't the great selection I had come for.

Its a shame, we have fequently used this place for our meal when visting this area, however this was the first time since the place has come under new ownership.
We were initally surprised at the prices which had taken quite a hike. OK so some restaurants are pricey, when you expect it, but we did not think for instance, that £3.50 for a side order of veg was reasonable.
We arrived early and were happy to have a drink while waiting. I noted one of the staff had a filthy apron on and hoped she would not be working in the kitchen....... i hoped wrong.
There were two young guys serving and they were very polite in service. I did expect, from the information i was given my meal would have had vegetables with it and was disappointed when i didnt get these. This was a 'special' and it turned out that veg was 'only' £2 per portion with the meal.
The food, to be fair was good, however the service left a bit to be desired. The projected ambience of the place was spoilt by the sullen and abrupt nature of the girl (with the filthy apron) who was serving (a loose defintion). Our side dish was removed before being finished, we weren't even asked if we had finished, she lacked any customer service skills and we felt she was rude. We were regaled to her loud stories and laughter while chatting with the other staff behind the bar.
The table we sat at was wobbly, this could have been fixed in minutes by owners, one of the chairs was falling apart..
Not going to waste any more time detailing more, Sorry guys you have lost regular customers and need to train your staff.

We ate in this pub on our trip to The New Forest after finding out about it online. When we walked into the pub we felt immediately uncomfortable and weren't made to feel very welcome. It was almost too much of an effort for the waitress to show us to our table. We had a steak from the 2 for 1 menu which was lovely, couldn't fault the food at all. One of the waitresses spent most of the time chatting to some friends that were in the pub rather than serving people which was very unprofessional. This place could be so good as it's in a good location in the New Forest and serves some lovely food but it's let down by the young untrained staff and their unprofessional attitudes. It seemed more like a bar in a town rather than the traditional country pub that I was expecting.
