“Clean, Tidy, Friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014

I spent a week here with my Mum and her Yorkshire Terrier. Having been to John Fowler twice before we were expecting the site and amenities to be a little 'tired'. How wrong we were! The lawns were kept nicely mowed and the flowers outside the reception area was a welcome site. On arrival I was greeted by a very friendly chap who explained what I needed to know and presented me with a welcome pack and lots of leaflets of places to visit. The clubhouse was clean and the food from the 'takeaway' good, hot and value for money.
The caravan had everything you could want and again was very clean and tidy.
I would definitely stay here again.

After reading some of the comments on here I was apprehensive to say the least. However I decided to make up my own mind and I'm glad I did. The site was spotless, no litter anywhere and the gardens and grass were all cut and looking very smart. The staff were cheerful, helpful and professional. Nothing was too much trouble and requests were dealt with quickly. Yes the caravan was a little tired but it was clean and had everything we needed. I was really worried about ordering food in the clubhouse (after reading comments) but it was quickly served, well cooked and piping hot. The site is a little out of the way if you don't drive but reception booked us Bayside Taxis, a really lovely driver called Lianne looked after us during our stay. All in all we had a lovely break (including glorious weather) and would not hesitate to return. I can't comment on the pool as we didn't use it but it also looked clean and well kept. As someone said before on here, if you want 5*, book (and pay!!!) for 5*.Thanks to all at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park.

Room Tip: If you have someone disabled in your party, make sure you mention it when booking.

Hello Wellytwo

Thank you very much for leaving us such a fantastic review, we really appreciate it. Your comments have been passed to all departments.

As you say, the park does not deserve poor reviews and thankfully they are few and far between. We simply do not understand why some people choose to post them, when all the staff work really hard to make everyone feel welcome, as you experienced. However, we are all individuals and we can all have vastly different opinions on the same subject.

I am delighted to hear that you had a great time. Our returning customers are very important to us and we look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

It has taken me a while to write this review but i remember the datail well.
When our kids were small we holidayed in Widemouth Bay 5 times. The last time was in 2003. In 2013 we returned with our first grandson. The standard of Caravans has evolved since that time, service levels have increased and people expect more and the likes of Tripadvisor has made venting your opinions easier which means businesses must react. I think John Fowler have reacted well and obviously updating elements of the park have taken place. The clubhouse looked very similar to how it was 10 years before, so possible update needed there. The swimming pool looked very similar to how it was 10 years before, bizarrely small changing rooms. The scottish lifeguard was really freindly.

Upon on our arrival to Widemouth Bay Caravan Park we were greeted by a very helpful and professional lady called Tracy. She explained the location of our caravan clearly and advised us of where the amenities were and gave me an informative pack of local attractions. Our caravan was stunning, complete home from home (platinum caravan) it was clean, tidy and did not have that caravan smell :) The view from our caravan and the site is amazing, you have a great combination of green countryside and sea views. Normally we go to Haven on our UK holidays, it was refreshing to be somewhere that had enough entertainment for the children without costing the earth. Pool table, hockey table, fruit machines and arcades. The Entertainment was great too, not pretentious just good old family fun. The staff were very friendly and each and every one of them had a smile. Pete the facilities guy was a true diamond and was willing to help at any point. I really cannot recommend this site enough. We will be back and i will tell all about you.

All in all, it was a lovely holiday in a perfect setting. The facilities great. Pool is basic but you can create your own fun.

If your looking for a good old fashioned family holiday where your family will be entertained and it wont cost you the earth to do it. Great walks and great views - this is the place for you.

If you want a place to just pitch up & chill out for a few days then this park is absolutely fine. If you want somewhere near to a lot of local attractions then I should look elsewhere. A car is a must if you want to visit Cornwalls attractions. We visited as we hadn't been to this part of Cornwall before plus the price seemed VERY competitive. We had a touring pitch with electric hook up & as requested were placed right next to the shower & toilet facilities. Some of the facilities are in need of updating. The disabled shower though very roomy has only one coat hook on the door which is not enough for everything to be kept off a wet floor when showering. The seat in the shower itself is in the wrong position & needs moving under the shower itself rather than to one side. As for the shower, it is of the push button type & only lasts less than 10 seconds before having to push the button again. I found this most annoying & spent more time pushing the button in than actually washing. Didn't spend much time in the entertainment room, but the time we did spend there we found although the people entertaining us may have been trying their best, it was very limited & not up to our expectations. This said we did spend very limited time in there & can't comment on all the things that may have been planned on the other evenings. Free WI-FI was provided in the entertainment room but I found it that slow that I gave it up as a bad job. The indoor swimming pool was really clean & the water exceptionally warm. Had a go at the crazy golf. Found this really good fun as the course is covered in VERY uneven tarmac. It's like playing in a car park. Doesn't really matter if you're any good at golf or not. I think I could have given Tiger Woods a run for his money on this un-playable course, absolutely hilarious fun. Overall we enjoyed our visit & will probably come again. The weather was also very kind to us, this probably had some bearing on our enjoyment. Touring Caravans beware a very short, steep ramp when exiting the touring pitch site. We followed a small caravan off the site on one occasion & the back of the caravan only just missed scraping along the ground when the car towing it levelled off at the bottom. A larger unit like ours would really struggle to get away unscathed. To avoid this I exited along the entrance route which does not have this problem. The staff at the site are very pleasant & very helpful with any questions or queries. A little updating would go a long way towards improving this site for everyone.

Stayed in their new camping pod which wants just fantastic. Loved it! Great views where we were. Our daughter loves the entertainment (staff were amazing). Despite the site being very quiet, all the staff were brilliant. Swimming pool was great, play area good and all in all a lovely holiday. Surrounding area is so pretty. Only bad thing is the food in the bar!

Hello Louise

Thank you very much for leaving us such a fantastic 5 star review, we really appreciate it. Your comments have been passed on to all departments.

Our new “Glamping” project is proving to be a qualified success and we are delighted that you were a part of its launch.

Since the change in the regulations regarding taking children out of school during term time, I'm afraid there are times when the park will appear quieter than others. For many this is an advantage, but perhaps not for all.

We look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

1st of all the site and caravan were clean and tidy and the staff who I met especially the lady on the evening think she may of been a manager great customer service.

We were on a sun holiday I have done a number of these I have to say the caravan (105) even those clean and tidy was very old and it looked it inside lots of stains broken mattress well the TV pre digital still had VHS video not a big issue as the scenery is better than tv.

Just would like to say nice camp be even better if you spent some money updating your budget accomadation.

Hello Mr Rugby

Thank you for taking the time to write such a fair and honest review. We are pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and how helpful and friendly the staff were.

With regard to the caravan, no doubt you are aware that caravans have a shelf-life of about 10 to 12 years, after which they are replaced with a new one. This programme of replacement in on going and takes place during the off-season.

Your constructive criticism is being passed on to the park manager so that improvements may be made in the interest of future guests.

We really hope to see you again in the near future.
