“Close to the beach which is perfect with kids”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We had a family room which was right up the top so 3 flights of stairs which isn't good with three kids one being a baby. The view from the room was lovely, the room its self was ok still dirty in places and the bathroom smelled horrible had the leave the windows open and the shower head was held on with a coat hanger! Breakfast was good and did kids portions too. So overall ok bnb and hopefully next year it will all be done up to the same standard as the bar area.

Me and my partner were looking forward to our 2 night break in bude, as this was our first time. Never again will we stay at the crooklets. Very nice when u first arrive, round the bar area was all very clean and tidy. As soon as we turned the corner, to go up the stairs to our room, it looked like it had never been decorated. Old fashioned. When we got to our room, it was very disappointing, the carpets felt very dirty, and had stains on, the en suite bathroom was the smallest I had ever seen, with a shower older than the hills. After 10 minutes of being in our room, we had to call the owner up to show us how to get hot water from it. The light was broke, no sugar had been left, so good job we brought our own. I would never come here again, only wished we had booked the brendon arms!!

We stayed here for one night on our way down to Newquay. Staff we welcoming, rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. We had the family room which had a double in one room and two singles in the room next door-all open plan. The room was up a few flights of stairs so not ideal if disabled or elderly. The food was absolutely fantastic, we had an evening meal there and it was delicious! Breakfast was good too. Only thing which let he stay down was that the hot water pressure to the room was quite poor, but it wasn't really a big deal. Location was good, with sea views!

Very friendly and laid back, room was basic but very good value for the price which we negotiated with the owner before we got there. Stayed an extra night as enjoying ourselves so much, would have stayed longer but unfortunately they were booked up. Location is excellent for coastal walking and the beach - both a few minutes walk away didnt have to use the car once. It was surprisingly quiet given that theres a bar downstairs and we both slept well. Apart from the location the best thing about it was the food - excellent cooked breakfast for £5 each - cant even get a couple of coffees for that -and the bar food was out of this world I recommend the sea bass with fried poached egg, the steak burger - (which by the way my partner couldnt finish) the mussels served with chips and bread as a main course and the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had - generous portions and reasonably priced food of high standard.

Friendly welcoming atmosphere, new owners only been there a month. Rooms basic but functional(only needed the room to sleep and shower)with ample storage space,if you want more from a room on holiday i suggest paying double somewhere else. full english breakfast good value, pizzas also good.excellent selection of beers, rattler, san miguel, korev, sharpes doom bar etc.
Pity it wasn't mentioned on booking that right outside room10 window is scaffolding errected.work started at 8 am and listening to the builders conversation was akin to the tv being on in the room.
Overall excellent 4 day break, would recommend for beach lovers and walkers.

We were greeted by the friendly owner who gave us advice about everything from where to rent a surfboard to the local nightlife. Our room had a great view of the skate park, golf course and the beach, and for a very reasonable price we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay including the big hearty breakfast setting us up for a day's surfing, and they didn't mind us washing our wetsuits in the shower :) they could do with a larger telly though but otherwise top notch!!

We ended up disappointed with this hotel despite a friendly welcome from it would appear to have been the Barman. He showed us our room and price. We weren't too sure as whilst bedroom was clean ,and with en suite, it (as well as the stairs leading to the rooms) looked tired and in need of refurbishment and a lick of paint. However the view from the room towards the sea was wonderful and we were tired and needed a rest so we agreed to take the room. A mistake at the price. There was no information leaflet in the room and we were left unsure of what time breakfast was to be served. The bed and room were comfortable to sleep in and it was vert quiet(although we think there was only one other guest there at the date we stayed.) so maybe not the same in busy season. The shower unit appeared to have been put together badly by a D.I.Y amateur and generally the bathroom area was shabby, of poor quality and almost makeshift in appearance. Then we hoped we were in time for breakfast, and luckily we were. We were the only ones there and waited for awhile before someone noticed us. However a cheery lady ,possibly the owner, came through and made us welcome and a good breakfast was served efficiently in the bright conservatory. The conservatory and Bar areas of this Hotel are bright and airy and have good views. the bedrooms need to be brought up to the same standard. Currently it seemed to us that the owners were concentrating on a good bar and catering trade from visitors to the seafront and the hotel trade was not a priority for them. Perhaps the room standards are quite suitable for parties of golfers but if you are used to more modern hotel standards don't come here until the rooms are upgraded. Finally the male owner(we think)checked us out.He seemed surprised that we asked for a discount(even for cash) as we did not feel the rate was right for what we had received. Rather surly attitude we both commented on when we were outside. Sorry we won't be back or recommending this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't say yes until you have checked it thoroughly especially the en suite.
