We went on a visit to see the Gildhouse and were given tea and biscuits after we had had a guided tour around the top of the building. We then went downstairs and were allowed to try on some of the Tudor clothing which was great fun. A gem.

We recently hosted a wonderful birthday party for our mother with about 60 family and friends attending. The small team of volunteers who have restored this special Tudor building have managed to retain the building's magic, yet still provide a venue which comfortably accommodated our party.

The Gildhouse looked stunning, inside and out, on the day making it a truly memorable party.

I'd also point out that Jen and Chris Spettigue tirelessly provided the catering with a “nothing’s too difficult” attitude – something which can let you get on and enjoy the day!

What a wonderful hidden away place.
My daughter loves history so we decided to visit The Gildhouse, The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
My daughter was able to dress up in Tudor costumes which she loved.
For our daughter it was one of the best part of our holiday, and truly worth a visit.

Really interesting and pretty Gildhouse, located in the picturesque grounds of an equally old and interesting village church. The two volunteers on duty (Sally and Tim) were very informative and enthusiastic, particularly when it came to dressing us up in the mock Tudor robes they keep on site! Free coffee and tea although donations are gratefully accepted and well worth giving for this unique experience. Highly recommended for all ages and especially for those with an interest in English history and dressing up!

Thanks for your lovely comments about the Gildhouse - we're glad that you enjoyed your visit to our wonderful old building.
Just one thing - it was Sandy and not Sally who, with Tim, were the guides for your visit.
They are two of a small band of volunteers who spend a lot of time supporting the Gildhouse in various ways, including acting as guides on Wednesdays but all their hard work is made much more enjoyable when we get such excellent reviews as this.
Thank you.

History is not usually my thing but it would be impossible not to enjoy this visit as the enthusiasm of the guide is very contagious. Sally is extremely knowledgeable and is able to take you through the history of the building in a high level of detail. She is very engaging and you can see that she clearly has a passion for what she does. We were made to feel very welcome, offered tea/coffee and biscuits and a place to sit. We were lucky that we were the only ones there when we arrived so we got to hear the story from the start rather than joining part way through. The building is very cool which was a nice break from the heat. Sally dressed quite a few of us up in costumes which has given us some great pictures. Excellent visit- we are not locals but I would recommend it to anyone who is in the area to definitely pop in.
