We ate here as two couples on a Friday evening. Glad we booked ahead as this got us a very good table in the corner. The menu is not huge but it is very interesting and everything was cooked beautifully. The signature strips of pork crackling (each about a foot long) provoked interest but were probably the only disappointing feature of the evening as a couple of ours were a little too difficult to manage without fear of damage to molars.
That said, however, the rest of the meal was really enjoyable. Highlight had to be the sea bass, which three of the party had: they were cooked to perfection and complemented well by a mix of shellfish. Desserts and starters were very tasty too. We thought that the wine list was fairly extensive for a small restaurant and wines were very reasonably priced; the one we chose complemented our main course beautifully.
Although everything was cooked to order, service was prompt, efficient and friendly. We very much enjoyed our evening here and will definitely return, not least as the Castle restaurant no longer functions and places that cook to this standard are few and far between in Bude. Will try out the tapas bar next time as well.
