We managed to get a booking at very short notice and so pleased we did!. Located on the edge of an insutrial estate we didn't think things would bode well - but thankfully we were quite wrong. The industrial estate is only one side - the other side is the river. It has a sister Tapas Bar located a few yards away. The cafe is quite small with a dozen or so tables. It is decorated in a contemporary style with tables of differing sizes fairly well spaced. There is some outside seating but we couldn't recommend the view! We were warmly welcomed into the cafe and shown straight to our reserved table. Once sat down it was easy to forget the location. Our waiter (George?) was very friendly and super efficient. We ordered local mackerel for starter and Sea Bass / Cod for mains. The food arrived quickly and was hot and quite delicious - it is definitely the best fish we have eaten in Bude! Desserts were quite delicious and the chocolate fondant and warm lemon tart come highly recommended. Dishes are fairly well priced and there is a nice if not huge wine list. This is a lovely little place that delivers without fuss and without the rampaging crowds of the larger resturants in Bude. The shining glory of this place is the staff. I am surprised about other less than complimentary comments about the food from a previous reviewer and I am certain that if they asked the team to replace the food they would have jumped at the chance to improve on their offering. Highly recommended - don't miss the chance to go there.

This could be very good even though its on an industrial estate, the interior is cosy, inviting and not too big, fairly well laid out. The staff are very good but they need to be backed up by what comes out of the kitchen, I had the mushroom starter, not very good, old mushrooms. The wild boar parfait on the other hand was vey Tasty. The pepper stuffed chicken for main was overlooked and dry and the mustard sauce too strong, cod 3ways only seemed to come 1 way and the salmon could have had a sauce or reduction. The vegetables were perfectly cooked (al dente ). The meal was rounded off with a lovely lemon tart, cheese & biscuits and port. But come on make the rest as good and we will be back. Silly little errors. Sort them out.

I visited the River Life Cafe with my other half on 31/7/13 after reading the enthusiastic reviews on TripAdvisor. The cafe/restaurant is housed in a modern building overlooking the river and was very easy to find, we actually stumbled across it wandering into Bude on our first day there.

We enjoyed 3 courses (something we hardly ever do), both having the scallops to start, followed by Sea Bass/Pan Fried Duck and sharing the local cheese board with port to finish with a crispy bottle of white wine and a fruity real ale for me. All courses were cooked to perfection with a decent to large portion size and presented in a boisterous, unfussy style. The scallops were amazing, soft and retaining all the flavour of the garlic sauce coating them, I cannot recommend highly enough. All the food was locally produced with all the pork coming from the owners farm.

Service was warm and friendly, we were served by a very polite young man who helped point us in the direction of the local night life after our meal (there did seem to be a lack of bars in Bude). We did get charged for two extra items by mistake but the staff we quick to address and very apologetic. The prices are between £10-20 for a main course which I would deem average for decent food now, for once the food was worth it!

The River Life Cafe is a wonderful little place, I would recommend seeking it out the next time you are in Bude.
