four friends and i had the pleasure of staying at the dreadnought .our rooms were very clean and warm and comfortable..it is an old hotel and does need things done ,the new owners have that in hand as they have only recently taken it over and have good standards...we were served a a good breakfast in the morning..all in all we had a good break and will go back for a longer stay. l

Firstly, our greeting at reception was perfect, the female on reception made us welcome, having stayed on various occasions in the past this was definitely an improvement. The décor in the lounge had been modernised and this too was a pleasant improvement. We were given our key for room 217 on a room only basis and were happy to see that we had been given a refurbished room at the front of the hotel. The room was big and clean and we were glad that we paid extra for a superior room. This was when our stay went downhill - We sat at the table in front of the bay window and noticed that the table was wet and then we were getting rained on with drips from the ceiling, we moved the table and put a towel on the floor and my husband went into the bathroom (which had not been refurbished) to find that the toilet didn't flush and there was a huge puddle in the middle of the floor coming from the skirting which was damp, brown an wet so this was obviously not a new leak. We requested another room and were given room 219. This room was much smaller with a bed against the wall at the entrance, small tv and very cold. We queried having been given this room and were told that this was the room and rate we had paid for. I pointed out that we had paid for a superior on a room only basis and after much checking we were given keys go room 218. Good airy superior room but bathroom floor was filthy cant think when it was last washed with a huge border of engrained dirt round the room. We decided as it was only for the 1 night we would put up with it. We settled down to watch TV and there seemed to be a power surge and it went off - it was a very windy wet night outside and it seemed possible that something had happened. We went out for dinner and returned to no TV. My husband went to reception to query as the TV kept asking for the ariel to be plugged in. He was told that there was nothing could be done and that we could come down to the lounge (McNabs) to watch TV. My husband asked for this to be checked out and in 5 minutes the TV was plugged in!!! There was no-one around in the morning to take our concerns and had to leave but never to return. Totally unsatisfactory stay and only gave poor rating because welcome was good, otherwise would have been terrible.

We have just returned from a weekend break at The Dreadnought Hotel. Although I agree the rooms are tired and could do with some sprucing up, we had a great time. The rooms were clean. The food was good and the entertainment was brilliant. On Friday night we were kept entertained by a singer who was brilliant and he kept the dance floor full. On Saturday it was a Tribute night with The New Jersey Boy's they were amazing and again the dance floor was always full. The staff at the Hotel were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble. We went with friends of ours and will certainly be returning next year..Listen out for Victor he's a great singer too!!!!!! Although the staff are small in number they seem to be able to turn their hands to anything and everything. Thankyou for a great weekend. See you next year. Lynne and Gordon. Room 111

This hotel may seem nice in the picture but when you get there you will be disgusted. I paid quite a lot of money to stay in this hotel and when I got there it was like staying in a hostel. The staff were very unpleasant and the rooms were very dirty and had no life. Decor was old fashioned and furniture was just holding together.

Do not stay here!!!!

My family and i stopped in Callender for a meal and ended up In McNabs bar. The inside has obviously been updated recently and we had a warm welcome from the barman. The food was excellent and portions were a good size.
The back area to the toilets is looking very dates and could do with a change but didnt detract from a good visit. WE will use this place again on our next visit.

when i first read the reviews i was a little anxious i had booked this hotel, we stayed for a night when we were walking the Rob Roy way, very central location.

the price you pay £49,bed and breakfast is very good, alright it is a bit tired as a hotel but this is not 5 star and the hotel is over a hundred years old, staff are very helpful and friendly, we had no problems whatsoever, breakfast was good with the staff all trying to be prompt and helpful.

i would stay here again no problems,
