“Old fashioned top quality hotel”

Such a wonderful hotel, oozing with character, quirks and charms. Just a few minutes' walk from the interesting High Street of Callander and yet you feel as though you are miles away, so quiet and peaceful is the Roman Camp. The food is superb, the service is second to none, the bedrooms are ever so comfortable, and we love the atmosphere, engendered by the narrow corridors, the nooks and crannies and the subtle lighting. This is the sort of place where you want to stay inside for days at a time, while outside the weather rages, a hotel for deepest winter with snow on the ground.

We live reasonably local and heard good reports so thought we would give it a try. The hotel is so full of character with open fires in reception and Drawing Room with an air of peace and quiet, The bedroon was one of their superior rooms - large, comfortable with all the amenieties one would want accept there was no shower caps in bathroom !
Dinner was a delight; well prepared and constructed and served with total profesionalism, in fact this restaurant was as good as any Michelin starred restraunt in Edinburgh. Also it was a real change to have breakfast served and not a buffet
Would go again anytime and recommend to anyone

Room Tip: Go for superior rooms or suite

What a fantastic, fascinating hotel! The whole place is sumptuous, the food wonderful and the staff attentive. If you like a very old, traditional hotel with excellent service and fine dining, this is for you!

We were invited to a 70 th birthday party dinner here and decided to stay the night. The staff were cheerful, helpful but not over-attentive. The room was comfortable and the bed large and hard enough. The bathroom had a jacuzzi bath that actually worked and loads of hot water. The crowning glory was the dinner - superb. I made the mistake of leaving an anorak hanging in the room when we left and it was posted back to me without hesitation. We have driven through Callander dozens of times but never realised this hotel existed. We'll be back !

This is a jewel box of a country hotel. First, let me make clear that this is not a luxury, modern hotel. The rooms can be a bit small and are furnished in a hodge-podge of English/Scottish country furniture. But, it is very comfortable. The bathrooms have been updated and are quite nice. The rooms are not air-conditioned. But even this lover of a/c and a cool bedroom found the cool country air to be a delight in an otherwise warm August. The staff is lovely and there is nothing like taking a wee dram of single malt, from a very fine collection, sitting on the window seat, in the main sitting room, looking out onto the River Teith.

As for dining, it is an absolute delight in either the main formal dining room or the smaller dining room, depending on which the hotel has open for guests, same menus. The prix-fixed menu changed daily, and the food was wonderful. Service was a bit amateurish, but absolutely delightful and considerate. There is a very nice and reasonable selection of wines.

Arrived on a lovely but chilly October day, to be welcomed by friendly staff and a big open fire in the lounge - wonderfully comfortable chairs and sofas - we didn't want to move! Were shown to our room (Lady Esher), huge room, filled with an eclectic hodge-podge of furniture which somehow worked...massive comfy bed, armchairs next to the table with a bowl of fruit, decanter of sherry and some bottled water for refreshment, as well as the usual tea, coffee and biscuits. Big spa bath with an overhead shower. Lovely and warm too. No, it is not modern and the staircase may be awkward for some as it's spiral with a rope instead of a bannister, and if you want sleek, beige, bland decor then stay elsewhere. Personally I loved every second of my stay and can't wait to go back. Fantastic experience.

Room Tip: Ask about the stairs - they do have disabled access too.

We stayed here for one night after our friends wedding. The location is beautiful, as is the hotel itself. There were so Many cosy corners to sit and chat. The library in particular was lovely. I would love to come back and spend more time here.
Our room was on the small side I suppose, but i'd describe it as 'quirky', someone previously has commented their room was dated. I would say our room was old fashioned rather than dated, in keeping with a scottish country house hotel.
I've already recommended the hotel to friends and family and will certainly return.
Also, cracking place for a wedding!
