“Twin room was rather small.”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

Reasonable value and adequate for a one night stay but the twin room on second floor was a bit small. Good central location. Breakfast ok. Didn't eat here so can't comment on bar food. Wifi is available but I had to go to the bar to get a signal.

Stayed for two nights at this hotel. Owners and staff very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Food was amazing and cooked fresh to order. Lounge had a real fire and was very cozy and the bedroom was very individual in style with a lovely four poster bed. Would definitely stay here again! Thanks again for your hospitality.

Our room was lovely - at the front with the four poster. Hotel full of character, as was the bar downstairs. It helped that Scotland won that night but really good banter all night. They served chicken curry at half time. We were too full from our dinner out. Lovely breakfast the next morning too - especially the black pudding

Had an overnight stay at the Crags Hotel. The staff were welcoming on arrival and although our room wasn't ready we could leave our bags in a safe place. The hotel had some lovely characteristics and the room was clean and comfortable, if a bit tired looking. The food in the restaurant was first class and would definitely recommend the crags fishcakes as a starter. I would be happy to stay at the Crags Hotel again when hopefully the weather will be a bit kinder to us!

Room Tip: We were in room 9 which looked out the back of the hotel into gardens. No noise from traffic.

Spent a night at the crags hotel and got exactly what was expected. For a hotel of its age and character it fits the bill. The highlight of our stay was the restaurant very good food. The menu was small but lovely food. Staff helpful and waitress in the restaurant very attentive.

The location, in the centre of town, is very handy for shops and facilities. The hotel itself has a somewhat old-fashioned air, perhaps because there is a lot of brown/beige décor and old dark wood furniture. Our party had two rooms on the top floor - Room 2, a rather tired-looking twin with ensuite shower at the front of the hotel and Room 3, a more pleasant double room with an ensuite bath at the side of the hotel. The front room got quite a lot traffic noise from the main street below (the window being single-glazed). Another gripe is the fact that there were top sheets under the duvets, a practice I dislike as it seems to indicate that the duvet covers are not changed each time a room is vacated. The free wifi was useful but there was no desk or table on which to perch a laptop. Also one of the twin beds had no bedside reading lamp, even though we had made this a request when booking. We had an evening meal in the restaurant and this was good food, nicely cooked and reasonably priced. Breakfast was good too. The staff /management were all friendly and welcoming.
