“You could die of old age waiting for food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2013

The food is fine, not the best - not the worse. Poor selection of starters , only two non fish!
Good selection of main courses. Very small amount of veg for a table of 4. I would love restaurants to tell me why they feel the need to serve small portions of veg that cannot cost a lot.
I asked the waiter if that was each or for the whole table and he looked amazed that I had even asked, I asked for more but it never arrived.
Good selection of traditional sweets. However my Summer fruit pudding was a disappointment, small and not well made, maybe the chief should get a cook book to show him how to make a proper summer fruit pudding!

The worse thing by far was the long wait. To be fair they do say in the menu that the food can be some time, but over 1 hour for the starters to arrive is taking the mick.

“STEPPING BACK”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

I visited Coffinswell, in 2007,because my great great grandmother was recorded as being there on the night of the 1841 Census, whilst the rest of her family were in Hennock.

The character and presentation of The Linney was an absolute joy to behold.

It seemed to have a solid 1950's air about it, with everything done properly and politely.

Wrote in my diary " ' had Brixham plaice, with new potatoes and fresh vegetables. It was a magnificent meal, and tasted so good. I washed it down with two pints of Bass ale; the best I have ever tasted"

“Remember to book!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

We have eaten here a few times when visiting the area. The first time we didn't book and when we arrived there were lots of people waiting to be let in! They did manage to find us a table though which we appreciated. We have always found the food to be of good quality and the service efficient. Two starters, main courses and drinks will cost about £50. The pub is very rural and the drive from the main road is very pretty, very English village, but it is obviously dark and narrow in places, it has never caused us a problem. The car park does get full and it may be necessary to park in the lane, especially if people have parked in two spaces!
If I wanted to be very critical just bear in mind that this is a popular pub so it does get busy, however if you book a late table most people seem to eat their meals and leave so it does get quieter later.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013

Dont really need to say much, lovely food all home cooked, packed on a Friday lunchtime - says it all really. Lovely bar man, very polite waiting staff. Ignore the previous review it really is not a true reflection. x
