“A wonderful place to stop”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

I was here on business around the Devon area and my wife booked me this wonderful place with good beer, inexpensive wine and fabulous food, to wake up in the morning with chickens and a goat being let out was pretty special to the usual business stop, the night stars were the brightest I have ever see.

Room Tip: Do not be fooled by the B & B sign, it is a hotel with restaurant.

We came here to celebrate my Wife's birthday with family & friends and couldn't have chosen better. Well staffed and with a very relaxed atmosphere. We had pre-dinner drinks in a nice cosy room. The meal itself was beautifully cooked and served unobtrusively by 3 waitresses. Our Grandson who prefers plain food was accommodated without any problem. We had the most amazing Sauvignon Blanc (Penny Lane)! A lovely evening had by all. Small and intimate. We shall be back

I was given a gift voucher for my birthday and went today - I have never used a voucher before and was greeted with the menu of two courses by one waitress, another waitress then came along and explained we could have the menu or the specials on the board or steak - after deciding, one person ordered steak but we had to remind the waitress how they wanted the steak cooked as we were not asked at the time - we were told our wine would served at the table but we were not asked which wine we would prefer and we were not sure if this was a bottle of wine or a glass, there was a lack of information and indeed a lack of interest, we felt, by the staff. We declined the offer of the sweet menu, but then no offer of coffee or anything else and quite frankly after sitting waiting for 20 minutes to be asked if we wanted anything else, we left - very cold and unwelcoming - such ashame as this is a local restaurant to us and was bought as a special treat - very disappointing

We can only apologise for your negative experience with us. I feel that on the day of your visit you were looked after by our trainees and perhaps this was a mistake on our behalf. We appreciate your comments however and a new front of house system is being put in place. If you would like to contact us we would be happy to send you a voucher for a cream tea to welcome you back on another occasion.

We were very fortunate to win an overnight stay with dinner and wine, and went last weekend. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and showed us to the penthouse suite which overlooked fields with ducks and geese below. It was a gorgeous suite with a huge bed, and the bubbly on arrival was a lovely welcome. The meal was excellent, with attentive service and the pâté and Eton mess cheesecake have to be tasted as absolutely scrumptious. Breakfast next morning was equally tasty, with freshly made croissants (which you could have jam with if you asked, referring to a prev comment) and delicious Full English. Thank you to Ema and all the staff, nothing was too much trouble. We regularly go for cream teas anyway which are definitely recommended for the homemade jam, but will definitely return for dinner.

I know I could be described as being slightly biased, but we were fortunate to win a £50 meal for two prize in a local charity competition and took our prize this week.
We had full choice from the menu as well as a good bottle of £10 house pinot grigio as well as some other drinks. The quality was excellent and we were not charges the difference between the cost and our prize.
Many thanks.

We chose this to use a voucher we were given and a great choice it was. We were in Dartmoor View apartment which a few steps down from the entrance had a well equipped kitchen with kitchen table and doors, and door which led outside housing two friendly goats. A few steps up from the entrance was the living room with sofas, tv, piano and a lovely view. Another few steps up was a double bedroom, single bedroom and bathroom. The restaurant was just a few steps across the yard. We decided to eat in the restaurant and had a drink in front of the log fire whilst we waited to be called in. Chose the special menu which was a great choice and value for money, including a glass of wine (we had to remind staff about the wine but not a problem). Breakfast was a choice of cereals/yogurts/marmalade (no jam)/croissants and a lovely full cooked breakfast, freshly cooked, served by staff who couldn't do enough for you. We loved Sampson's farm and staff - thank you.

We can only apologise that you did not enjoy your lunch with us. We have taken your comments on board and have liased with the kitchen staff on how we can improve things. Also we have plans to re- decorate the restaurant in the new year which is exciting as the bedrooms we have done over the summer look lovely.
