We went here for my sons birthday celebrations and had a wonderful meal and service, the restaurant has been decorated very nicely and out of the 6 meals we ordered everyones was cooked to perfection and delicious. I would highly recommend a visit. Although I would say be warned the roads up to Bickley Mill are a little treacherous.

My wife and I spent 3 nights there in September and it was a wonderful break from London. Hidden away from nearby villages and busy roads, Bickley Mill is a hidden gem. Throw in the added bonus of minimal/non existent phone signal, you can really switch off.

We went from London via train, and the journey was pretty straight forward and so was the taxi ride from the station to Bickley Mill. We managed to do 1 full day out in nearby Torquay, which wasn't really our cup of tea, but with the wife being French, I had to show her the 'British Riviera'. Getting around with no car was pretty straight forward with efficient cabs available, it just takes some forward planning.

Bickley Mill itself was an ideal retreat from London, and the staff are so friendly. We ate there on all 3 nights and the food was of exceptional quality. We stayed in the Riviera sweet which was fantastic and spacious. I have limited mobility and hobble around with the aid of 2 crutches, none of this was an issue during our stay. Yes, there are a few stairs to the room we stayed in, but they didn't prove to be an issue. On re-booking, we'll go for a room on the more accessible level.

Would we go back? A resounding YES. The place is fantastic.

We were staying at Bulleigh Barton Manor and they recommended a visit to this Inn. We were not disappointed.
Fantastic Food. There is something for everyone in the menu. The service was very efficient. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We stayed close by at Bulliegh Barton Manor. We called in for drinks in the afternoon, staff were friendly. The menu looked attractive so we returned in the evening. We could eat in the bar if we took our dog. Or in the restaurant if dog not present. We chose restaurant. The service was very good indeed. There were many clients too, but the serving staff coped well.
The meal was excellent, well priced.
This is also a hotel, which appeared to be of superb quality!

Room Tip: Good place to drop in or eat, would very much consider staying there too!

We stayed here for one night on the way back from Cornwall having found it on the Alastair Sawday Special Places to Stay website and one of his books. I went on the website to check it was up to date. I can only say Mr Sawday - please take it off the website. It is not special and not up to your usual high standard.
We booked the most expensive room which has a balcony. The half-eaten yoghurt on the bedside table left by a previous occupant said it all. The furniture is tired - especially that on the balcoby - and the room was not a place you'd want to spend more than a few hours. There was a heatwave on but no-one had thought to air the room. The Tv is on the wall but you cannot see if from the cheap looking sofa.
The bathroom has no-where to put anything and the shower overflowed.
When we arrived it seemed as if the relatively new owners are more interested in the bar/restaurant area.
Breakfast - there was a tiny table with a couple of apples as the only choice of fresh fruit along with some packets of cornflakes and weetabix. And tubs of yoghurt - like the half-eaten one in the room. It all looked unappealing and again it seemed as if the staff were more interested in a wedding that day.
We were awoken in the night by cars outside.
All this was in stark contrast to the fact we had stayed in a wonderful b&b in cornwall earlier that week. I now understand why Bickley Mill had vacancies at such late notice - which was the main reason for staying.

Room Tip: Don't stay here. if we had the best room I dread to think what the others are like

I was brought up in the area but have since moved away although we return frequently to visit relatives. We have eaten here before but never stayed, on this occasion we decided to stay, along with my mother and her husband. Our rooms were spotless, tastefully decorated and superbly comfortable. The deluxe en-suite had a wonderful shower, bath robes, toiletries and white fluffy towels! Tea making facilities, a flat screen TV and free Wifi were also available (if a little slow!)
The food was fabulous, and beautifully presented. Breakfast was excellent.
The staff were polite and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. All in all a very enjoyable stay, we will most definitely be staying here again very soon. :)
