“Fine Dining... in Chippenham? You Better Believe It!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

I visited the Bridge Brasserie in July 2011 and the food was fantastic. My parents had visited many times before (and since) and recommended it to me. When I asked where it was, I couldn't believe that they were being serious. A nice restaurant - next door to Chick 'O' Land?! You're having a laugh!

Despite being completely out of place, once you're inside the Bridge Brasserie, you completely forget you're on the fast food street - or even Chippenham (two plus points!).

It was a lovely experience and is inspiration for other 'restauranteers', illustrating that Chippenham can be home to some fine dining after all!

“Great place, amazing food and excellent service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012 via mobile

I went here with some work colleagues and we were concerned that portion sizes might be quite small, but we were pleasantly surprised. Food was very tasty and looked stunning too. Waiting staff were brilliant and had remembered what we had all ordered without having to ask. Will definitely visit again!

If you more into taste of food rather than just filling up your stomach then it's the place to go. Fresh and delicious!

“Decent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

It’s a tough gig trying to offer good quality food in Chippenham. The money is all in the villages, and the X5ers are not going to head into town and fret about parking near this rather unchic street when they can tool to Lucknam Park, Castle Combe, The Chef’s Table in Tetbury or the Pear Tree in Melksham - let alone Bath. That leaves you with a rather limited local market, which often doesn’t want to pay a lot and is probably not particularly adventurous. So aiming to offer the best cooking in town means striking a balance between aiming too high and freezing people out and aiming too low and competing with the cheaper and more cheerful spots. Not an easy balance.

They make a decent fist of it. The dining room is rather conventionally deployed with hardwood floors, comfortable leather dining chairs and a dozen tables in three ranks. Art-for-sale on the walls completes the theme.

We had a decent truffle risotto to start with, some sole and a rib eye steak. All perfectly good, but nothing exceptional. I’d had a rib eye at the Chef’s Table a few weeks ago which was truly memorable at the same kind of price (£19) so it made an unfortunate comparison. The puddings were fair but unsensational and the service attentive and friendly though lacking warmth.

The wine list is limited but covers a sensible range and you can get a drinkable bottle for under £20 or pay more if you want.

I’d like to be more enthusiastic about this place (this was a second visit) as they do try very hard and Chippenham needs a decent restaurant or two. For me it just lacks a bit of magic, whether in the décor, the service or the food. But it is perfectly decent.

“A chippenham gem”

Been there twice now with friends and thoroughly enjoyed myself on both occasions. Excellent, imaginative menus, well presented and delivered. Without a shadow of a doubt, would recommend to anyone whether you're local or passing through.
