Having been here before I was looking forward to a pleasant evening, sadly that was not the case. It was to be my father's first experience of Indian food as a celebration of his 79th birthday, so we were a large group of 10. For no apparent reason it took us over an hour to be served our meal! This was hugely disappointing and off putting to the two older members of our group. The wait staff were very good but there is never a reason to wait an hour for a meal. The food was good but I felt not as good as our previous visit. Unfortunately combined with the long wait, we had to endure a raucous all-ladies group on the next table, not the restaurants fault but it did spoil our experience & the evening of most of the other diners there, I should think!

One of the biggest nights in Chippenham....switching on of the Christmas lights....one would expect The Ashoka to be busy. Oh dear, even at 9pm on a Friday evening, there were very few diners.
We have been eating here ever since The Ashoka opened many years ago. Then, we stuggled to get a table and thoroughly enjoyed the food. I accept that a number of new Indian restaurants have opened their doors in the local area and may have taken some of the custom but what has happened?
Poppadums & pickles were fine. Mixed kebab starter (£4.75) was OK and so was the garlic chicken (£3.45). The main courses have "lost their sparkle". They were very ordinary.
No complaints about the service or value for money.

We visited this restaurant during a torrential rain storm where we had to paddle to get from the car to the restaurant. We received a warm welcome from the staff as we arrived dripping from head to toe. We were a party of three and we all had different starters. The onion bargee was probably the best of the three but there were plenty to choose from. Two of us then had chicken Korma and one chicken malaya curry, rice and nan breads which were light and tasty. The food was piping hot and very enjoyable. We had a bottle of house red wine which was very drinkable and at less than £12 a bottle good value to.
