Four of us dined here on 30th March. Being newcomers to Christchurch we had booked by phone and were initially disturbed to find that the set menu was £31.95 for 2 courses with a surcharge of £5 or £6 for the fillet steak. However the atmosphere was pleasant and the service efficient and very friendly. The terrine starter was good but the trio of pork with blackpudding was excellent. We chose a cheaper wine (about £17.95 a bottle) and both the red and white were fruity and tasty. We decided against dessert or coffee and the bill, including tip, came to £88 a couple, which was expensive considering that we had only 2 courses, although given the quantity of the starters and main course, we were all full. The pork dish alone made the meal memorable.

We have gone several times to this restaurant to celebrate different occasions. We went there last night with friends. At the time of booking I requested a booth, however, on arrival (with a glass of champagne in hand) we were asked if we would like to dine in the wine cellar. It is a private dining area, and could still hear the hustle and bustle of the restaurant -this made our evening even more special. While deciding what to order we were served some very tasty canapes. The food was well presented, hot, good portions and most importantly -scrummy!!! I had the venison and it was tender, very tasty and full of flavour. I didn't have a desert, but judging from the empty plates they were yummy! and helped down with a glass of desert wine. The service was attentive and friendly, and the evening ended with the chef joining us to say hello and chatted with us for a while. All in all this was a wonderful evening, with wonderful food, service that doesn't break the bank. Can't wait to return

we have tried the mid week menu a few times & been pleased but we wnet at the end of February to celebrate a birthday with a friend. As it was a Saturday the menu was 3 courses £38. 95. The fois gras starter was small, the pastry wasn't crisp & the raspberries were not fresh. The venison had little flavour & was not tender. A very ordinary meal for the price

It all started as soon as we walked through the door where we were greeted by the friendly front off house staff and she took our coats and placed them in wardrobe. We where offered a seat in the bar and a drink where we sat and chatted and had canapés and had our order taken, we where shown too our table we decided it would be nice if we sat in the cellar which gave a very different atmosphere which was loverly, we only wait 5 minutes before our starters arrived I had the pan seared scallops with parsnip purée it was cooked and done to perfection I wanted more!! Our mains where called away and a master piece off trio off pork came out I was amazed it was mouth watering just looking at it I could wait to try! I took my first piece and I got some many different flavours from the mash potato to the sweet jus it was just Devine! We waited for our mains to settle until we where welcomed with a gorgeous desert I opted for the warm chocolate brownie which was rich and sweet going through ice cream chocolate sauce and chunks off sweet nutty brownie... Amazing place run by great people highly recommend splinters.

Tried it out for the Valentine's menu, at £50.00 per head (plus extra £5.00 for steak!) Meal was canapes, starter, main and desert.' Canapes' on the menu consisted of two tiny bits of battered fish and two bits of chicken liver pate - to share between two of us - a very measly canape offering! A glass of sparkly was included on arrival. Overall assessment is big plates, very small portions and very high prices. Quality is reasonable but more of it would have been appreciated. Service is good.
