was sceptical about going for the third time for a family birthday (different members) however it must be said that the ambiance and location are second to none in Christchurch.all 8 of us had 4 different starters which looked good but tiny and tasteless. the main courses were the same bland and tastless.my rib eye steak was so poor I took one bite and realised that anyone prepared to send this quality of steak out must have a problem.the friendly staff offered to replace it with the lamb within 10 mins so it saved the night (almost).in our opinion all( 8 persons )the captains club has slipped in the ratings since its earlier days and has cut down on the quality of their ingredients to come down to a price which has to be said is reasonable.the portions are too small, the ingredients are poor so put the prices up and don't serve food down to a price as seems the case at present.THANKYOU to the pleasant and attentive staff for saving the evening.(if they need a decent steak/meat supplier just ask miller & carter where they get theirs from). WILL NOT BE GOING BACK UNTILL THEY ADDRESS THEIR FOOD ISSUES.

Stayed there two nights the celebrate our first anniversary. Excellent hospitality. Excellent food. Very clean rooms. Our second stay there. The hotel is in a lovely location with all the rooms over looking the river. Can't wait to go back.

As regular visitors to Christchurch we always find time to have a most enjoyable coffee - and a delicious shortbread, in the most relaxing atmosphere of the Captains Club. It was therefore an obvious choice for 19 of us to have breakfast here, as the grand finale to a most memorable celebratory weekend.
Lena and her team were most helpful and efficient; everyone enjoyed their superb breakfast and returned home very impressed with the service that we had received.
We will all be back!!

Great atmosphere and friendly staff - very "cappuccino" style. Quite appropriate actually with Cappuccino Radio playing over the internet. Actually, make that Cappuccino style with a spot of Aussie thrown in. Good food and reasonable wine prices.

Only drawback is the limited parking. Be prepared to walk or wait...

Service is faultless - just be prepared for the 'downgrade' at the end of your holiday !
Fantastic location and on this occasion definitely a room with a view!,
Would return if in the area, relaxing ambience but be aware that the primary objective is to relieve the guests of their 'disposable income'

We spent this weekend at The Captain's Club and couldn't recommend it more highly. From the minute we arrived until we left the staff were amazing -so attentive, helpful and smiley. We stayed in a suite which was lovely, very chic but also comfortable, it had every mod con you could wish for including a dishwasher! The view from the suite was incredible, so picturesque - boats and swans, we spent ages just watching the world go by. There is a lovely terrace where you can sit and have drinks also overlooking the river. We took the ferry from right outside the hotel to the other side of the river ( 2 minutes!) and then walked for about 50 minutes to the beach, which is beautfful and sandy. In the evening we had cocktails at the buzzing bar, Tomo the mixologist (cocktail maker) made us some fab cocktails! Good quality food with plenty of choice and beautifully served. We liked the use of local producers like the breakfast cereal provider from Dorset. We didn't make it to the spa but we looked in and will definately go during our next visit.

Room Tip: Definately ask for a river view, some of the suites have a corner view as well

This hotel is one not to miss. The location is so relaxing, right on the river with plenty of room on the terrace to watch the world go by - there is lots of activity on the water as the hotel is located next to the Rowing Club.
Our bedroom was very well equipped, clean, spacious with a great view.
Has a small spa which my wife used but would suggest you pre book any treatments.
We had a top class dinner on the Saturday night (again make sure you book as the restaurant was full). We really couldn't fault a thing. Great ingredients, well matched and beautifully presented. Breakfast was also really good with lots of local ingredients including Dorset Cereals.
But above all, what really made the stay so special was the staff. For the most part, quite a young team, but clearly very well trained and without exception they all went out of their way to ensure you had everything you needed. And when they recommend something, take their advice. We chose a cocktail each but they suggested a "special" that they had on that evening - we weren't disappointed. At dinner, the wine waitress suggested we try another wine to the one we had been drinking earlier in the day - yes it was a couple of £ more expensive, but was absolutely well worth it.
Well done Captain's Club.
