We had lunch here yesterday and the waiting staff could not have been more attentive and polite - we had a delay with our order and were kept fully informed and attended to.

We had Thai curry, Barbeque Chicken and a chicken ceasar salad - all good portions and nicely presented - good quality food - excellent.

We have been here over the years and is always vey pleasant - my observation and comment as to why it doesn't get 5 stars is the quality of the chairs in the bar area - they need replacing, are quite battered and it lets the place down - otherwise it is great here!

We recently spent a night at the Captains Club which enjoys a splendid location on the bank of the River Stour. The terrace is adjacent to the moorings and our room had a superb view of the yachts and the activity on the river.

The room was capacious and elegantly furnished in a modern style. The bathroom was especially large and well appointed. The staff were courteous, friendly and most willing to help.

Our experience in the restaurant for the evening meal fell short of our expectation for a hotel of this class.

We expected a comfortable, quiet and relaxing restaurant. Instead, we got the impression of being in a busy pub. The tables were quite closely packed and the room was full and very noisy. The waiters seemed to be very busy but appeared to be disorganised. Waiters did not seem to be assigned to a particular table which resulted in confusion and slowness in taking orders. The food, when it arrived, was acceptable but not of a standard that we would have expected from this category of hotel. A previous reviewer has described the food as 'pub grub': this was our impression too. The £17 'Fish of the day', for example, we thought was unremarkable.

Breakfast was good; the restaurant was almost empty and had a pleasant atmosphere - probably because only overnight guests were present.

Apart from the unrelaxing nature of the evening meal, we enjoyed our stay and we would recommend the Captains Club for the high quality of the accommodation, the outstanding location and the general helpfulness of the staff.

Room Tip: Room 107 has magnificent views over the river.

Well you would certainly expect it to be fabulous given the price for one night B&B.
Rooms are good, service on arrival ok but even though 2.00pm check in room not ready until 3.00 p.m Told us restaurant full so could not have evening meal, which seemed strange but we did manage to eat. Food only really like pub grub and service poor. Had to ask several times for either drink from bar, or tap water and this was before the evening got started, and the place was only half full.
Had some flowers delivered to the room and asked them to write in the card. Card was empty!
Nice view and great location is what probably why they can charge and get this price for one night out of season.
Breakfast next day very poor quality, pastries a bit stale, no reasonable fresh fruit selection.

Generally a Very Pleasant Lunchtime Experience, PERFECT Table (great river views, although some of the seating fabric looked a little tired), GOOD Staff (attentive & knowledgeable, almost overly at times), AWESOME Cocktails (especially the raspberry mojito), TASTY Well Presented & Cooked Food (mains a little frugal for the price and avoid the pork Way Too FATTY) but overall Definitely Worth a Visit on a Special Occasion...

From the moment we arrived i can honestly say that ive never been made to feel more welcome than we did at captains club.

I need to give special mention to martin the concierge who could not of been more helpful, he went out of his way to give us maps of the area and book a restraunt with a lift in the hotel car! To be fair all the staff we spoke to offered amazing service and the management should be proud of how their staff performed! We travelled a long way to come here and we shall do so again in a heartbeat! Thank you captains club!!
