We visited the Nelson last night as a large group for my birthday - there was 11 of us in total and one of the guests was a wheelchair user. We pre-booked the table (a week in advance) and specifically asked re wheelchair access and were assurred that the restuarant was accessible.
Although the restuarant is accessible the "disabled" toilet was used as a store room and we had to ask for fire extinguishers, hoovers, wine etc to be removed so it could actually be used. Although the manager was apologetic he stated that this is "inevitable". The food was nice but some of it was cold and unfortunately the upset caused by this incident tarnished the evening. I have previously eaten at this restuarant and enjoyed it, but will not be returning.
For anyone planning a visit who has disabilities, the access to the disabled toilet is only by going outside and does have a step to it. I was extremely disappointed and have advised the manager as such... my concern is that if a customer specifically asks re disability access and is advised this is not a problem then the provision should be there. I also question as to whether customers are aware that wine is being stored in the toilet.....
