“Very dissapointed..”

We visited the Nelson last night as a large group for my birthday - there was 11 of us in total and one of the guests was a wheelchair user. We pre-booked the table (a week in advance) and specifically asked re wheelchair access and were assurred that the restuarant was accessible.
Although the restuarant is accessible the "disabled" toilet was used as a store room and we had to ask for fire extinguishers, hoovers, wine etc to be removed so it could actually be used. Although the manager was apologetic he stated that this is "inevitable". The food was nice but some of it was cold and unfortunately the upset caused by this incident tarnished the evening. I have previously eaten at this restuarant and enjoyed it, but will not be returning.
For anyone planning a visit who has disabilities, the access to the disabled toilet is only by going outside and does have a step to it. I was extremely disappointed and have advised the manager as such... my concern is that if a customer specifically asks re disability access and is advised this is not a problem then the provision should be there. I also question as to whether customers are aware that wine is being stored in the toilet.....

“Friendly pub with good food....”

What a lovely pub. I have been there a few times this summer/autumn/winter and the entertainment is good and the food is excellent. Lovely sunday lunch with the family. Good atmosphere and kid friendly.

“A strange but good mix”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

This place is an odd combo. A nice cosy, rough around the edges, pub at the front. You walk through the pub to get to the rather more sophisticated looking dining area. The management were welcoming.
The menu is big, you can have Thai, Chinese and lots of English options.
The service was good and the food was really good.
Whilst in the restaurant you won't forget that the pub is there. Don't eat here if you want romantic and intimate. The pub does have events and had a loud rock band on when we ate there. At the weekend the drinkers may cause enough noise on their own.
I have also come here for drinks a few times and have always found the staff to be nice.
So if you fancy good food in the ante room of a lively pub then this is the place for you.
I think you can also sit in the pub and order food too.

“EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2012

This is a pub that besides offering a great selection of beers (plus regular beer festivals) has an amazing selection of variety foods on offer and this includes a Thai restaurant. You can get everything from afternoon cream tea through to basic bar snacks, typical bar food as well as a full restaurant menu. If you dont fancy the really excellent Thai then order the crispy roast pork belly and be prepared for your eyes to pop out when its placed in front of you, delicious! Fast service with regular music nights and a great atmosphere.

“Lovely surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2012

We had booked into the Christchurch harbour hotel and needed feeding! A short walk to the Nelson Tavern - nice, friendly welcome by staff and customers alike. Went through to restaurant . although it was early and we were the first diners there was a nice warm ambiance. Service was good .. Food even better. We stuck with the English dishes this time, although the Thai menu looked good. A beef and ale pie and the slow cooked pork accompanied by well cooked fresh veg together with a Lovely bottle of chilled Nobillo. Little touches like the crackers and sweet chilli sauce on the table as we sat down made this a real pleasure. we shared an excellent sticky toffee and date pud for dessert. Worked out about £15 a head, plus wine. Would definitely recommend on the strength of this visit.
