This is a pub that besides offering a great selection of beers (plus regular beer festivals) has an amazing selection of variety foods on offer and this includes a Thai restaurant. You can get everything from afternoon cream tea through to basic bar snacks, typical bar food as well as a full restaurant menu. If you dont fancy the really excellent Thai then order the crispy roast pork belly and be prepared for your eyes to pop out when its placed in front of you, delicious! Fast service with regular music nights and a great atmosphere.

We had booked into the Christchurch harbour hotel and needed feeding! A short walk to the Nelson Tavern - nice, friendly welcome by staff and customers alike. Went through to restaurant . although it was early and we were the first diners there was a nice warm ambiance. Service was good .. Food even better. We stuck with the English dishes this time, although the Thai menu looked good. A beef and ale pie and the slow cooked pork accompanied by well cooked fresh veg together with a Lovely bottle of chilled Nobillo. Little touches like the crackers and sweet chilli sauce on the table as we sat down made this a real pleasure. we shared an excellent sticky toffee and date pud for dessert. Worked out about £15 a head, plus wine. Would definitely recommend on the strength of this visit.

Friendly staff, lovely food but a bit over priced. Nice pub at the front, can watch the footy with the locals. Nice thai food, very tasty!

Four of us enjoyed a delicious Thai meal in the Nelson's excellent restaurant on Saturday. The platter starter was superb, as were all the main dishes and desserts. Lovely house white. We were given one wrong dish, (swiftly corrected), otherwise I'd have awarded an "excellent", (I'm harsh, eh?), but the service was otherwise friendly and attentive, without being OTT.
We've eaten here before and can see why it's got such a great local reputation and following. Loved the jazz duo too. Thanks to all the staff & chef!

Utterly reliable whether you eat in the pub section or in the restaurant at the rear. Great cheap lunch menu, good value evening one. British standard fare or Thai. Above average Sunday carvery - superb meat - beef, lamb, pork/glazed gammon, or turkey. Not dried out but succulent or rare, and wide choice of veg including cauliflower cheese. Veggie options.
Good service, friendly locals, cheery landlord and lady (who can tell of his times with Keith Floyd in Bristol). Music and Quiz evenings in bar, special menus for event such as World Cup rugby when dishes reflect the teams playing on the bar's TV.
