Description: Alex Aitken from Le Poussin, Limewood and The Jetty, is now in charge of the food and menus at The Kings Restaurant. The Restaurant serves the very best local and seasonal food – with sophisticated simplicity and a unique and charming English setting, overlooking the Kings Arms Bowling Green and historical castle ruins. The Kings Restaurant is honoured to introduce the new 'Josper Grill', a technique that imparts a distinctive charcoal flavour to all the local and handpicked ingredients placed upon its coals. The delicious menu makes use of the very best local ingredients either caught, grown or prepared close to Christchurch from the New Forest and the waters of the South Coast.

The 15 mile menu is both original, well cooked and nicely presented.
This was the latest of a number of visits and we reckon Alex is struggling with the price cap. Present portions are a little less the a year ago and the choices a little more basic.
Nevertheless, an excellent dining experience in Christchurch (a gastronomic desert) in a friendly comfortable dining room.
If you intend driving, parking is a real issue.

Got to eat here on Christmas Eve (as well as other times recently). Nice simple atmosphere but the food continues to amaze both in presentation and taste (see pictures). Always highest quality, good and accommodating service, in a very special town. We live in Toronto Canada, can't wait for UK visits to get back to eat at The Kings. As per other reviews, service can be a bit slow, but most places in this town are similar paced. (see The Ship)

Visited the Kings Arms last Sunday despite not having booked they kindly accommodated us and had a table made available quickly. This was appreciated on a busy Father's Day Lunch service. Great menu with a good varied choices with the emphasis on local produce. Loved the Josper Suckling Pig. Staff were all very helpful and despite a having a busy lunch service everything arrived promptly, Great service and food at a very reasonable cost considering the quality of dishes on offer. A special note of thanks to the restaurant manager who kindly helped my mother negotiate the front steps. See you again soon

we booked a table for lunch for 15 including a child in a high chair and were welcomed by friendly helpful staff. The menu we chose was the 15 mile for £15 and all our food choices were delicious and well presented, The only quibble I would have that it was quite a wait and they weren't all that busy. We amused ourselves by watching a wedding over the road on their bowling green location.
A nice, relaxed, well priced lunch.

Having been bought the meal as a birthday present, we didn't expect to have to question at the outset why it was only 4 courses and to be offered a couple of extra prawns by the embarassed waitress. Then, although the meal was passable, apart from the medium rare steak being well overdone, we expected the meal to be a 'taster' of the best of local produce that the restaurant prides itself on offering - not a mixed grill obtainable from anywhere ! Unfortunate also that we chose the Thursday evening of the 'Supper Club' so had to listen to chef holding forth at intervals. All in all a great disappointment - regrettably we won't be back

Thank you for your recent email and review of our restaurant. I was disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your meal at the Kings, as we strive to ensure that all our guest receive the optimum of service and food quality standard. May I clarify that our tasting menu consists of 4 courses; one of which is a soufflé prepared in the manner of our Chef de patron, Alex Aitken, as well as a mixed grill which is cooked in our own "Josper" grill, which is a unique preparation method. I am sorry if this was not to your taste. I believe the voucher you were presented was produced by a third party company, who has now been informed of the 4 courses, rather than 5, but I am sorry that this was not relayed to you directly.
