“Great Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

Visited the Kings Arms last Sunday despite not having booked they kindly accommodated us and had a table made available quickly. This was appreciated on a busy Father's Day Lunch service. Great menu with a good varied choices with the emphasis on local produce. Loved the Josper Suckling Pig. Staff were all very helpful and despite a having a busy lunch service everything arrived promptly, Great service and food at a very reasonable cost considering the quality of dishes on offer. A special note of thanks to the restaurant manager who kindly helped my mother negotiate the front steps. See you again soon

“family lunch”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

we booked a table for lunch for 15 including a child in a high chair and were welcomed by friendly helpful staff. The menu we chose was the 15 mile for £15 and all our food choices were delicious and well presented, The only quibble I would have that it was quite a wait and they weren't all that busy. We amused ourselves by watching a wedding over the road on their bowling green location.
A nice, relaxed, well priced lunch.

“5 COURSE TASTING MENU”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

Having been bought the meal as a birthday present, we didn't expect to have to question at the outset why it was only 4 courses and to be offered a couple of extra prawns by the embarassed waitress. Then, although the meal was passable, apart from the medium rare steak being well overdone, we expected the meal to be a 'taster' of the best of local produce that the restaurant prides itself on offering - not a mixed grill obtainable from anywhere ! Unfortunate also that we chose the Thursday evening of the 'Supper Club' so had to listen to chef holding forth at intervals. All in all a great disappointment - regrettably we won't be back

Thank you for your recent email and review of our restaurant. I was disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your meal at the Kings, as we strive to ensure that all our guest receive the optimum of service and food quality standard. May I clarify that our tasting menu consists of 4 courses; one of which is a soufflé prepared in the manner of our Chef de patron, Alex Aitken, as well as a mixed grill which is cooked in our own "Josper" grill, which is a unique preparation method. I am sorry if this was not to your taste. I believe the voucher you were presented was produced by a third party company, who has now been informed of the 4 courses, rather than 5, but I am sorry that this was not relayed to you directly.

“60th birthday party in the pavilion of the Kings Arms Hotel”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Having eaten several excellent meals at the Kings Arms Restaurant and also the fact we live very close by, we decided to hold my 60th birthday party in The Pavilion. Natasha helped us organise every detail, the menu, wines, even recommending an excellent florist to bring flowers and put up bunting. The canapes were exceptionally good and the waiting staff excellent, circulating and making sure everyone was served. The quality of the main dishes was also excellent and several guests commented on the delicious roast beef and salmon-en-crout.
We had a wonderful party, we and our guests thoroughly enjoyed it, many commenting on the delightful setting of the venue and the excellent food. We would definitely recommend.

“Lovely staff, shame about the food !”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

Having had one or two mixed reports from from friends decided to give it another try - the Kings Arms is one of the institutions in Christchurch- long established and in a great location, but although the front of house staff were excellent and the atmosphere and restaurant were both what we expected, the food was a letdown.Very small portions of fish, not proper chips, hard peas and the risotto was flavourless and very stodgy. Such a shame - as we said to the restaurant manager (who handled our complaint very well) we want it to be a success as it is one of our "locals". Perhaps we will try again when they have sorted the problems !
