“Excellent meal and perfect setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2014 via mobile

We went at lunchtime and chose the meal of the day which was haddock risotto. The service, wine and food was excellent. We have been a number of times and the food has always been good, but service can let it down, but today the service was faultless. Will definitely be going back soon.

“My meal was excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

Been meaning to go here for a while as it has been on my 'list'. Didn't feel rushed to be seated although we were a little past the time of the reservation. Very attentive staff at all times. My cheese soufflé was to die for and I followed this with the venison pie with roasted root vegetables with a side of potatoes and cauliflower gratin which my husband shared. Everything was cooked to perfection. Couldn't finish the venison as it was in very rich sauce but the taste was delicious. Struggle to find nice places to eat sometimes but as a first trip, this was excellent. Will definitely return.

“Fabulous lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

We had a fabulous lunch to celebrate dad's 91st birthday on 13 Jan 2014. The food was superb - we mixed and matched from the 2 menu's and paid our compliments to Head Chef, Andy - who came to our table and made us feel part of the whole menu choice. It was a delight to savour Eggs Benedict - the eggs were poached to perfection; Dad chose the seafood platter which he needed help with as the array of seafood was, maybe, a little too much for him - or it could have been that I just wanted to taste as well!! - the oysters and crab were delicious. Zoltan, who helped us choose our wines, made excellent recommendations at affordable prices. He not only was knowledgeable on the subject, but also had an engaging personality. Emma, our waitress, was friendly and courteous. All in all a wonderful lunch occasion and we hope to be back next year to celebrate dad's 92nd birthday - but will certainly lunch there again and can absolutely thoroughly recommend the whole dining experience.

“Food excellent - service very slow”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

Love the setting and the food excellent but spoilt by the very slow service 35 minutes before the soup etc arrived. Have been twice for Sunday Lunch recently but due to the frustrating waiting around will not be rushing back which is such a shame. Waiters very polite but does not make up for poor service

“Saved by the food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

Decided to venture back here for the first time in a year in the hope that the Captains Club might have regained it's better service from earlier days. Sadly not. This place continues to be let down by slow service with the exception of the maître'd. What sort of establishment does not put crackers on the table in the restaurant on 23rd December? We had the Christmas menu and this all seemed a bit mean and lacklustre. The whole restaurant needs an overhaul- you used to get tablecloths at least...not anymore. And we decided not to put our bags on the floor when we saw the state of the filthy carpet. For the prices they are charging, they need to up their game.

HOWEVER the food was absolutely delicious although for the price we paid, it needed to be. The chef is being majorly let down by the establishment. Go for the food but don't expect anything more.
